I don't like how the game turns into a 2d cover shooter from world 3 onwards but it's still good and everyone should play it.

Love this game, but yeah, the difficulty curve goes through the roof starting in World 3. I've made it to the first level in World 4, but it seems impossible at that point, and that's barely halfway through the game.

I've found that Vlambeer games usually have a good start, but after beating a world or two, the game turns to poo poo real fast because of an awful difficulty curve. Serious Sam: The Random Encounter has the exact same problem you describe.

The major problem I have with the difficulty lies in spawn positions because sometimes you do get hosed over and there's not much you can really do, but the game's still mid-development and they have said they'd be working on the exact issue

It's not the difficulty itself (definitely needs tuning though) but the mechanics themselves. The first act seems like it spawns larger, more open areas, the enemy and bullet density is lower and your damage is lower so you have to expose yourself more. From act 2 or even 3 on the enemies and you have a ton of burst and the levels get narrower so you have to sit in cover and peek out to blow your load every once in a while. Doesn't help that there isn't anything to force a pace like the scoring system in Super Crate Box.
