fucking stupid, dont listen to me

Dying Light is yet another zombie apocalypse simulator (coming out January 27 2015) where miraculously, YOU are not dead, unlike everyone you ever knew, loved or cared about. The game is being made by Techland (of Dead Island (in)fame). Initially started as a sequel to Dead Island, it was split off into it's own game as the developers felt they had added enough new features to warrant it. It is NOT Dead Island 2, which is now a thing and a completely different zombie game which will also suck just like this and every other zombie game.

Will it be any good?
Probably? The graphics look nice, and there is lots of gore. The gameplay videos linked below should give a good idea of how the game looks and feels, and there is a lot to like. It features a large, open world, with many degrees of freedom in movement. Climbing, free running, dodging, and using the environment against the enemy are big themes.

Really? I've heard these things before...
I know, I know, the zombie genre has had some disappointing entrants. However, it looks like Techland has learned a lot from the first Dead Island, and has been playing to it's strengths. The melee combat focus from Dead Island is here, along with some very interesting 1st person parkour mechanics (and a grappling hook!). There will also be 4 player co-op, and for people that pre-order, the option of invading other peoples games as a L4D Hunter like zombie. There is supposedly a story of some sort, and RPG elements, but that hasn't been Techland's strong suit in the past. From what I can tell from the videos though, your character is at least more tolerable than the ones from Dead Island.

Ok, I guess this sounds ok, what else?
There is weapon crafting, loot, XP, skills, environmental effects, traps, etc. A lot of stuff hasn't been explicitly spelled out, but the gameplay videos show off a number of these things, and show the game well. Most of the video out there is of the actual engine & real gameplay, so that is a good sign. There is a preorder bonus that gives you a swanky Omni-element crowbar, and the ability to ruin strangers & your friends lives by joining their games as a hunter. This feature may or may not turn out to be fun, but it's an interesting concept. No word on if more than 1 person at a time can do this. The open world is stated to be around 2-3 times larger than all areas combined that were in Dead Island. There are no vehicles in the game, but considering the freedom of movement now available, they aren't really missed. You'd probably just use them to repeatedly back over zed anyways.

This is the guy you get to troll lesser players with

Note the tentacle whips, this guy moves like Spider-Man on speed.
