This thread is for the appreciation of the underdogs of the book illustration world: elementary school textbook illustrators.

These underrated artists help teach our children through visual aids and funny cartoons. When you were a child, what did you enjoy more: reading a bunch of boring text or looking at some rad pictures of numbers and letters with eyes jumping around and showing you how that poo poo is done?

Yeah, you show those kids how to use you, you dirty little numbers.

Look at these kids. They are having so much fun with numbers
and can help make your kid realize that math can be fun too.

When I was a kid I had this awesome book about math that my mom bought me. It had kick-rear end illustrations of almost everything and a cast of characters all the age of the intended reader. Each chapter started off with a comic about the subject of that chapter and they often had history lessons in them. One of the comics talked about some autistic guy that was good at simple equations with large numbers and spun around while calculating. My favorite one taught you how to draw a circle with a dot in the middle without lifting your pencil off the page. It made learning fun and gave me some neat things to use to show off to my friends.

What were your favorite textbook illustrations growing up?

I leave you with this awesome textbook cover of an otter playing a conch shell:
