Aria von Reiji Asuna Gunpla Center - Tactics Room B

It has been two months since the announcement of the war. Two months of preliminaries, of tests and combat maneuvers and preparations that have all led inexorably here. The new stadium, the largest Gunpla arena ever built, a combat field able to handle thousands of active participants at any one time. It waited at the center of the building its polished surface already glowing with the first hints of Plavasky light, the impatient roars of the hundreds of thousands in attendance echoing even this far down the hallway to the tactics rooms where the final briefings were underway.

"Alright, alright settle down. We've only got about fifteen minutes before we have to be on our way to the battle floor, so if we could try to adopt a modicum of professionalism?" The no nonsense blonde was a familiar face to the assembled Aces. For two months Evelyn Karington had been the face of the newly formed "Gunpla-Pact Federated Forces" or G.F.F. the name given to the agency tasked with assuring a Gunpla Pact victory in the "war". In that time she had shown herself to be ruthlessly practical, cutting anyone who was unable to make the grade, regardless of political or economic connections. Evelyn was not playing, or if she was, she was playing to win.

"Thank you." She'd murmur as the crowd died to a manageable murmur. "As I would hope you are all aware by now, today is the start of GBW-001, the official title of the 'Gunpla War' announced late in October by the Judges. By now I am certain you know what is at stake, but I thought one final rundown might be in order, to give anyone with nerves one final chance to back out in favor of an alternate before you are locked in for the duration. Stevenson, lights."

The lights dimmed at her instruction, and a holographic display burst into life behind her. It was a map any child would know, showing the Earth Sphere, with the earth at its center. Around it there were a series of circled areas of space each filled with hundreds of small pinpricks of light that represented colonies containing tens of millions of people. Elsewhere was the moon and its new cousins Luna 2, Luna 3 and La Luna, their surfaces covered in platforms dedicated to various scientific and industrial endeavours. Still further out lay the deep red of Mars and the massive bulk of Jupiter with their associated colonies, mines and exploratory missions.

"In July of last year Lagrange Three, L3 as most of you know it, asserted their right to independence. It was an entirely unexpected move, coming from a democratic state that hitherto had shown know real disconnect with the Gunpla Pact as a whole. At this point we're still not entirely sure how they even decided on the matter, only that there was an upswing in discussion regarding secession in early February, and that by late May a vote had to be scheduled due to overwhelming popular support." Evelyn took a moment to adjust her glasses, tapping on a handheld tablet to display images of various L3 political figures as she spoke. "We believe that some or all of these individuals are responsible for the change in opinion, but as of yet have no evidence or even understanding of their methods. Suffice to say that the Gunpla Pact believes that there are... irregularities in the vote and that while we would be willing to allow L3 to leave if they really so chose, we find the circumstances suspicious."

"The L3 independence was joined by independence calls from La Luna, Jupiter and Mars, putting Earth and some of our near colonies on a collision course with an independent space empire. I barely feel like I even need to say this, but it is the belief of the Gunpla Pact that any mass secession of this fashion is a prelude to something much worse. Humanity hasn't engaged in actual warfare in generations... I would like to keep it that way."

The images vanished as delicate fingers played again across the holographic tablet, displaying a complicated flow chart they had all seen before.

"This is our way out. GBW-001, the Gunpla War." Evelyn stated smartly, highlighting the top of the chart as she continued. "The War is broken down into five primary events, roughly one every two months. In between these primary events, each faction will also participate in numerous secondary events in an attempt to gain advantages to help them in the primary events. The overall victor will be determined by the winner of the final of the five primary events."

"In theory we've been told that a faction could come back from losing all four primary events to with the War if they win the final event, but by that point the penalties from previous losses will likely have stacked so high as to make it all but impossible. Lets not let it come to that."

"Each primary event will be a large scale battle taken from a point in Gundam History. They can be from any series, and sources tell us that it is likely that the battles will be tailored to the overall progress of the war. If we are losing, we will likely be fighting defensive battles and vise versa." Images flashed as she spoke, showing examples of various large scale battles from Gundam shows across the ages. The Battle of Solomon, The Defense of Orb... even that awful finale from Gundam Age showed up at one point or another. "As a general rule the vast majority of players on both sides will be assigned Gunpla by the judges based on their rank. These will be setting appropriate grunt suits, GM's, Zakus, GN-XIII's or what have you and they will make up the bulk of our fighting forces."

"The exception to that rule is, of course, you." Evelyn smiled, the briefest hint of emotion crossing her lips as she looked at the assembled group. Perhaps she was proud of those she'd assembled? "Both side are assigned a number of Ace pilot slots to each battle by the judges, Aces who are allowed to bring in whatever custom Gunpla your minds can imagine."

"We do not know which battles we will be fighting, but we do know the general format and numbers." Another image lept to the screen, filled with data detailing the specific numbers for the opening event. "Today's event will be roughly 10,000 vs 15,000 in our favor as far as 'grunts' go. This suggests it is going to be a heavily defensive event on our side of things. By contrast however, we will be outnumbered three to two in Aces... so you folks are going to have your work cut out for you."

"Make no mistake pilots. I expect you to win this fight!" Evelyn stated harshly, her eyes full of fire as the holographics dimmed and the lights regained their full strength. "If you want to back out, do it now. Otherwise I expect to see you win on the field. Report to your captains. Dismissed!"

Aria von Reiji Asuna Gunpla Center - Gunpla War Battlefield

The sound of the crowd is like a physical presence as the stage is set. Already the gigantic battlefield is ringed by thousands of participants, and thousands more have their gunpla set along the stage's edge, their control booths hidden out of sight beneath the stage itself for lack of space.. Even the least of these fighters are contenders in some field or another, be it regional, national,, legal or otherwise. No one who has plans to fight today is an amateur.

On each side the Aces take their place opposite one another on a raised platform intended to make them stick out from the crowd below. All eyes are on the ones who might very well shape their way of life for the foreseeable future. Or at least they were until she appeared.

"Hellooooooo~ Gunpla fans!" She cried, raising her microphone to capture the unruly roar of the crowd as she strutted to the edge of a platform overlooking the enormous battlespace. She took her time withdrawing the microphone, letting the crowd start to hunger for her words before she'd even consider speaking them. "As your Gunpla Image Character for this most important event I feel as though I have so many things to say to you... but I feel like you've waited long enough don't you?!"

Their cheers of affirmation felt like an ocean wave washing over the center of the room, one that the woman basked deeply in for a moment before turning her attention to the stage and shouting along with the sudden arrival of a mechanical voice.

"Gunpla Battle, combat mode, startup! Model damage level, set to A. Please set your GP base."

Silence fell as the arena lights dimmed, replaced by the gentle blue glow of a massive Plavasky Particle dispersion. Everyone, even most of the players were holding their breath for what came next.

"Special Field, Island Iffish" Operation British, the first large scale battle of the One Year War. The Judges had certainly picked an appropriate choice.

"Please set your Gunpla."

Elisa

The Tallgeese is set and readied for action without its owner as much as looking at anyone else in the room.

"Elisa and the Tallgeese, ready." Her voice is crisp and clear and betrays no hesitation or doubt. "Always first to the fight, no?"

A sigh, and a rustling as an expensive dress is carefully brushed into position to sit down. "Come on then. Let's see if anyone can muster a challenge today."

GM Ohta

'Ohta here.' There's a hint of iron to the voice, like someone used to issuing commands, and Ohta's furrowed brows appear on-screen, jacket and tie slung over his right shoulder. The Guncannon ReINFORCE's sirens flash and whoop once as the Plavsky particle emitters pick up Ohta's GP base. 'What's the play? If they pull off that colony drop, that's game for us. We'll engage the enemy aces as necessary, but our priority should be on stopping that Side 2 cylinder before it reaches the edge of HEO. Don't want to make the same mistake they made in '79...'

"I can handle the aces," says Elisa. "The rest of you can deal with the colony."

EXCEED CHARGE
William Janson

William walks up, one of the last to arrive. He calmly places his GP base and then sets down the Gale Victory on the stand. "See, you two are looking at this all wrong. Unless one of you is hiding a Buster Rifle, Satellite System or siege mobile armor then none of us have the firepower to make a dent in that colony. No, we'll have to leave that to the fleet, what we need to do is to focus on keeping the heavy guns alive. Let's not forget, this is early One Year War, our guys are going to be stuck in primarily in Saberfish and other space fighters, easy prey for the enemy Zakus. Zeon's use of mobile suits is what allowed them to drop the colony, even if it didn't hit its target. If we can keep the MS off of the ships, the nuclear missiles and mega particle guns ought to do the colony in."

Carmelita

Carmelita's Musai-class Waltharius cruiser is over a meter and a half long and a meter wide. It's massive, and like all of the other ships, had to be placed carefully on the field with the help of a pair of G.F.F. support personnel. The only new addition marking it different from a stock Late Production-type are the bright orange bands painted around its engines and bow to distinguish it from any other Musai-class cruisers that the enemy may field. Not canonical at all, which irks her, but c'est la guerre.

She looks upon it sadly, knowing it isn't likely to survive this battle. Nonetheless, the power readouts alone are fascinating as they rise to their normal values.

"Captain Ibanez of the Waltharius here. The hangar is in the back of this Musai variant, should you need rearming during the fight. Capture should be a breeze with pilots like you." She's grinning wide. This is the first time she's had a chance to bring one of her ships to a gunpla battle.

I am very powerful, of course.

Tsukasa

"Alright buddy, time to show L3 just what we're made of!" The Aces on either side of Tsukasa try to hide their sniggers of disbelief. Who talks to their Gunpla like it's alive? Tsukasa tries to tune them out. It's do or die time, and he's got a lot to do. The model sets solidly on the GP base, and Tsukasa takes a calming breath. "Tsukasa Wright and Argus, ready!"
