“There is only one way things are going to go down: we’re going to shoot them, kill them, and laugh as they fall on the floor!” ---Sargent William Hunter Welcome aboard the Birth By Fire, one of the oldest Marathon-class ships in the fleet. On board, there is a highly trained and specialized staff consisting of the best humanity has to offer, like all UNSC ships. From Spartans-IIIs to your regular grunts to highly trained technicians, the Birth By Fire’s staff is ready to do its duty to defend humanity from all threats. The Human-Covenant War has spread across many star systems and threatens all of humanity. No human colony is safe. Only through secrecy has Earth remain untouched. God forbid it ever be found. The Birth By Fire, however, has been requested to respond to a more human threat. Not everyone accepts the necessity of the UNSC or our methods. An Insurgency against the UNSC has cropped up on many outer colonies. On the outer colony of Haley’s Hope, there has been reports of aggressive Insurgency attacks against our research outpost. There has also been suspicions of involvement by “other” entities. The Birth By Fire’s mission: Reclaim the Outpost, Capture or Kill All Insurgency Members, Confirm or Deny the Existence of “Other Entities,” Reclaim or Destroy All Captured Data, and Save The Lives of Research Personnel. -------- Welcome to Birth By Fire! This is a FATE game set in the Halo universe using the Atomic Robo RPG system. This will be a roll20 + Skype game run every Tuesday night at 9:00 PM EST. Player characters should be a member of the UNSC military. While I prefer different classes of soldiers -- including Spartans --, you can also use other types of members such as scientists. Not as if the games didn’t include members like those in the front lines befores such as Professor Ellen Anders. Character creation will follow standard rules for Atomic Robo, for the most part. Spartans will need to take a weird mode and an appropriate weird aspect. Following is a suggested version of the Spartan weird mode: Spartan: Athletics, Combat, Notice, Physique, Provoke, Vehicles, Will (Cost: 10) Weird aspects for this mode could be things like “Kidnapped As A Child To Be Part Of A War Machine” or “Trained My Whole Life To Be The Elite Of The Elite.” As per usual, by taking a weird mode, you may also take mega stunts. Don’t be mistaken, by the way, anyone may take a weird mode to match their character concept, not just Spartans. Spartan players may also alter the suggested weird mode as they see fit to match their character. The biggest difference in Character Generation from standard Atomic Robo is that everyone will start with a Primary Weapon and a Secondary Weapon. These weapons are made using the Hardware as Mega Stunt rules. You may pick two of any of the following weapons. You also gain grenades as a bonus. All Weapons have the Weapon Flaw: Run Out Of Ammo in addition to their unique flaw. Weapons: M6D Personal Defense Weapon System Function: Is This A Pistol Or A Sniper Rifle!? Flaw: Strong Recoil Surprisingly Potent: Weapon: 2, when firing this weapon at one zone away. Accurate As Sin: Once per session, you may reroll a failed shot with this weapon without spending a Fate point. MA5B Individual Combat Weapon System Function: Short, Controlled Bursts Flaw: Hardly Accurate Always Another Clip: Once per session, when the Out of Ammo flaw is compelled, you can ignore the compel until after the weapon’s next use. You can choose to spend your Fate point then to reject the compel. Let Loose!: +1 to create an advantage with combat. M90 Close Assault Weapon System Function: Close Range Cannon Flaw: Short Effective Range Close Range Juggernaut: Weapon: 2 when firing in the same zone. To The Face!: Once per session, you can create an advantage without rolling. Sniper Rifle System 99C-Series 2 Anti-Matériel Function: Assisting From A Safe Distance Flaw: Obnoxiously Loud Long Range Expert: Weapon: 2 when firing one zone away. Scoped: +1 when attacking with Combat. Perfect Support: +2 to creating an advantage with Notice when helping a friend stay hidden. M41 Surface-to-Surface Rocket Medium Anti-Vehicle/Assault Weapon Function: Go Boom! Flaw: Collateral Damage Isn’t Fun BOOM!: At the cost of a fate point, you can deal 3 shifts of physical harm to up to two targets that are in the same zone as each other without rolling. Obscenely Dangerous: On an attack that succeeds with style, spend a fate point to prevent the target from checking a stress box to absorb harm. M9 High-Explosive Dual-Purpose grenade Function: Tactical Explosives Flaw: Not Where I Wanted It To Land! Frag Out!: Once per session, you may target 3 targets with the same attack as long as the targets are in the same zone. Unlike normal mega-stunts, these will not increase the number of Fate points the GM has. There are more weapons to be found during the game, but, as it stands, these are the only weapons available aboard the Birth By Fire. You will just have to find more in the field. Spartans may also gain the following armor. Unlike the weapons, this armor’s mega-stunts does increase the number of Fate points the GM has, as mega-stunt hardware normally would. It is also possible for non-spartans to take this armor if they have a good reason for having it. MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor Mark V Function: Strong Iron Plating And An Internal Shield Generator Flaw: Shields Need To Recharge! There Is Nothing Better To Wear Into Battle: Armor: 2 Energy Shield: Once per session, you can ignore all shifts of harm taken from an attack. The last change to the rules will be that, during the game, zones will be much smaller than in normal FATE games. This is to better emulate FPS gameplay by adding more tactical positioning elements without going overboard. I won't be crazy with this, but most battles will occur in 2 zones. In a really large engagement, it may go to 3. Recruitment will end on April 24th.

Question (and SPARTAN concept going here soon:) Based on your selection of weapons and the MJOLNIR suit available, I'm guessing this is pre-Pillar of Autumn? EDIT: Well, you did say SPARTAN-IIIs. So Halo 2-ish? Also, hopefully a SPARTAN-II app is still okay. pre:SPARTAN-II Jonah-358 High Concept: CQB Specialist With A Big Ego Trouble: Last Year's Model Omega: Wrong Place, Right Time Modes: SPARTAN Aspect: Child Soldier, All Grown Up Action Aspect: In Your Face All The Time Banter Aspect: "Come At Me, Bro!" I'm pretty interested. I haven't built in a long time, though, so submission might not come for a few days.

Tempus Rimeblood posted:Based on your selection of weapons and the MJOLNIR suit available, I'm guessing this is pre-Pillar of Autumn? Well, I hope I don't sound rude or like a super nerd, but neither of those things date this in that way. The Mark V armor is used by Master Chief in Halo 1 and Noble Team in Halo Reach. It was use long before that. Spartan-IIIs existed in Reach, which took place before Halo 1, and for a while before that so that doesn't date it as around Halo 2. I hope that wasn't obnoxious. For the record, as Halo Reach, 1, 2, and 3 kind of bleed into each other and set off events that kind of consume a lot of narrative space, this is set before Reach, but after Wars. Spartan-IIs are fine, by the way. Go for it! Also, Spartan-IIIs aren't really worse than Spartan-IIs. It's kind of weird. Essentially, Spartan-IIIs are made to be cheap and expendable, while Spartan-IIs are higher quality, but require more time and must be produced in smaller quantities. Just mentioning because got the feeling you felt it was different. Edit: I hope it wasn't rude to point that out. I don't mean to restrict your options with how you build your character, I just thought I should mention. Covok fucked around with this message at 21:37 on Apr 2, 2015 |

Corporal Henry Blue “You’re too young to remember the Battle of Hat Yai. What a fight. We lost that one, but came back again – fightin’ for folks who didn’t know how bad things had got. Hot dropped on Arcadia. Saw some action in Jericho. Octanus and Ariel too. poo poo son, before we ran into those alien bastards I saw seven separate raids against the Rebs. Each time, some rear end in a top hat in command like you thinks I’m up for promotion. Each time I turn it down. ‘Cept that one time they forced Sergeant on me - lost my whole squad to a pack of Jackals – we hit topside right in the midst of ‘em. Now, I just tell them the same thing imma tell you - shove that shiny pin right up your rear end. The place I belong is in the Tubes with the rest of the boys. Hah, we didn’t even have tubes back in the day. Just big ‘ol boats. Fit entire squads in ‘em, kind like these here Pelicans. Death traps. Lost a lotta friends. Getting tired now son. Demolition only costs 1 character point. Also, what are your modes -- and redundant skills -- rated at? Other than that, seems good.

Neat, that leaves me with 10 points. I'll just hang onto those until they become dramatically relevant!

I counted it up and got 23 ( 9 (Action) + 3 (Science) + 2 (Athletics) + 1 (Burgluary) + 2 (Combat) + 1 (Demolitions) + 1 (Notice) + 1 (Physique) + 2 (Stealth) + 1 (Will) ) so it should be 7 points left.

I'm sorry, but we do not have enough players for the game. I apologize for this. I was hoping to have three players at minimum, but that has not occurred. Thank you for your interest and have a good day.
