nobody wants to buy shiny plastic disks anymore, nobody wants to manufacture them streaming is the future and the lower the bitrate you can get away with the cheaper it is. 2x better codec will not save you from the 8 megabit hell you if you have 4x the pixels on screen. blu-rays cost the same to manufacture whether you put a dailymotion quality stream on it or something actually watchable, so might as well use as much of the disk as possible and crank those bitrate knobs 20 years from now movie nerds will pass around blu-rays of fant4stic and pixels as the definitive versions

my dream media player: basically a ps4 that i can more easily stream stuff to from my pc. plex is annoying and requires either money or the use of the ps4's browser (plus it doesnt work with everything i have), and i cant use universal media server because i refuse to install java
