My mom's job is to call old people who are too stubborn to wear a hearing aid, the result being that she often shouts herself hoarse; I'm trying to find a USB headset or standalone microphone with a built-in amplifier. The closest thing I've been able to find are headsets with noise-cancelling microphones, or gaming headsets with amplified speakers. The most I'm looking to pay is in the $200 ballpark. Her work computer is running Windows 7, but I'm assuming that independent microphone amplification software isn't an option because she doesn't have admin privileges to the computer. Does a product like this exist, and if not is there a reasonable way to jury-rig something? I'm not very competent with electronics, but my brother and dad are both EEs with the usual array of voltmeters etc that you'd expect an EE to have in their workbench.
