Her ridiculously aggressive cheerfulness was..... not genuine.

Your clues were that she invited herself to Gus's party, wore that dress, altered that dress when Mickey showed up, LOVED EVERYTHING OMG ME TOOOO, and constantly did that sing-songy voice thing during low-energy moments.

Also the fact that no one who acts that peppy and cheerful is ever not putting on an act.

OTOH, she's Canadian.

What were people's reads on Heidi, was she really as self-centered and cutthroat as her last interaction with Gus might indicate, or was she really a good person like she seemed in earlier episodes and her final behavior with Gus was a reaction to just how much of a clueless dick he was being towards her when she needed some support, especially when he acted like such a defensive weenie about himself having anything to do with her character getting killed off ?

She was fake as hell and just wanted something that probably wasn't going to turn serious or something.

I see her as the type of girl who finds a boyfriend and immediately subsumes themselves in his life, gaining the same interests etc.

Then he turned into an rear end in a top hat, like he normally does, and lost her job for her.

He really didn't lose her job for her, the strong implication was that she was fixing to be killed off/written out much earlier. If anything, his suggestion that she do something crazy and unexpected on set kept her employed longer than she would have been otherwise.

No that's true, but later in the writer's room his idiocy also led to her character being killed off again.

Yup, it was when he mentioned that the serial killer shouldn't murder the male character the other writers had already picked as the first victim, as it wouldn't fit with his motivations or whatever. Gus was such a spazzy dickhead, it's a wonder that I could tolerate him enough at times to actually enjoy this show.
