beep boop
imagine the internet suddenly being sent away to a place where there is no more human interaction, but the servers and computers keep operating as normal. after billions of years, would the information evolve into something, or would it just be a dead shell and pretty much the same as before?

rules:

-no more user input
-the hardware is immortal, where it does not degrade or break down physically, but has the same limitations with computing power as before
-date/time bugs do not exist

I think it would actually slowly degrade into less than what it is right now, with lots of sites using "popular in the last $n days" for building front pages for example. Machine learning things wouldn't get a larger set of training data so depending on how good their algorithms are they may just asymptotically approach perfection for the given task.

We've never actually made any smart things so this would just be a sad affair really

a smart(er) roomba that can judge a user by the dust it sweeps up and the furniture it avoids, reporting that info to relevant ad companies / ikea

That has to have been pitched by now, right?
