best friend massage posted:His satirical stuff from the late 60's was pretty funny and dead-on, but a lot of his later stuff is less insightful and more juvenile and not really funny to me. A lot of his later lyrics are really just there for the sake of having vocals in my opinion- the instrumentals are the real focus of the song. I consider ZZ Top to have the same lyrical style and it works. Who the gently caress cares if the whole song is about a sandwich? It's great music

Genius in France is brilliant Makes it even cooler to me that I discovered Zappa and Weird Al on the Dr Demento radio show in the early 80s This song owns so much and is the basis for my forum name, the superior previously unreleased version hither to unknown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErY9elAZQng

Freak Out! is a great album. It might not be as biting as his later stuff, but wow! The music itself is fantastic, especially with the cornucopia of genres covered. Hungry Freaks Daddy, I'm Not Satisfied, Go Cry on Somebody Else's Shoulder, Wowie Zowie, Any Way the Wind Blows, and of course, Trouble Every Day are awesome. A lot of people think Sgt. Pepper was The Beatles inspired by Freak Out!, but it's the White Album that's pretty much a homage. Absolutely Free is underrated. I love how he works in Louie Louie on several songs, then he's quoting Stravinsky in others. Talk about eclectic tastes. Egbert Souse fucked around with this message at 02:36 on Jun 22, 2016 |

watched baby snakes deep in a trip with a bunch of freinds and had no idea what it was about nor did my friends. came out convinced that zappa was marylin manson but directed his focus at music instead of murdering people still had the controlling part tho, liked being in the middle of chaos http://labs.echonest.com/Uploader/index.html?trid=TRKOOUD13B653A7FA0
