My wife wants to buy me a premade computer for my birthday since I am a huge nerd and moved across the country for her job (and she wants it to have a service plan). I know that better nerds than I look down on that kind of thing, but of the companies that build them which is worthwhile? Should I go to Microcenter and have them cook something up?

Goto this thread in SH/SC before you do anything. But, yes, you should go to Microcenter, since they'll offer service plans on any of the computer components you buy there. You can even futureproof purchases with those plans, so you can do an upgrade in a year or two.
