We employ plenty of people who work 8 to 5 with an hour for lunch. It's pretty common, especially in scientific development where people's productivity goes waaayy down after 7 hours or so of coding. They're all salaried, so they can [and do] work longer if its crunch time, but that's fairly uncommon in our field barring a client having a meltdown and demanding a validated data pipeline or something similar in a week. :v:

I haven't worked 9 to 5 ever, however.

I am the Head of Digital at a big integrated advertising and marketing agency. I work 8.30 to 5.30 with no lunch most days. People ask me whether they "should do content marketing" every day. It's OK and I get paid really well but I lost my soul a very long time ago.

I'm going to go contracting doing UX and Agile bullshit soon for soulless banks and finance companies soon because you get the same wage in total and less tax burden but only work 6 months a year.
