Where did I say anything about them censoring my favorite right wing rags?

The assertion I made comes directly from the original article posted and it's very simply this: Under international control, websites will no longer have the protection of the 1st amendment and could have their DNS revoked. This will likely result in more censorship not less. That's why congress is fighting this executive action.

So what I've learned from this thread is that the old Hollywood blacklists weren't censorship, it was just a bunch of private companies deciding to demonitize their homosexual writers and producers

I'd be fine with the UN controlling it as long as first amendment rights are guaranteed.

The problem is, Youtube must surely need considerable capital to keep the amount of server traffic it gets afloat. Youtube's fairly reliable, considering it is essentially the most widely browsed website online, or certainly in the top five. That's got to have some huge overhead.

I wonder how much upkeep costs though.

its like twitter, everyone uses it but nobody can figure out how to make money off it

this whole controversy is basically google trying to squeeze some revenue from advertisers to justify their big spending to investors. bicycle meetings and company ballpits are expensive

You've got to spend money to make money. People should put together ad content to be inserted before and during videos to complain about the demonetization/censorship issue.

I'm a girl, and you're
gnomes, and it's like
what? Yikes.

Posting a video to someone else's website and profit off it has NEVER been a protected human right, and it never will be. Being able to post a video to someone else's website isn't even a protected right, although youtube is still letting you do that. How loving dense and self centered do you have to be to think otherwise? You'll always be welcome to get your own server and set up your own streaming/ad service. You whine and moan about all of our 'extreme' examples, but they're not any more ridiculous than what you're complaining about. Just because you've gotten used to posting inane garbage for free and making a few pennies off of it doesn't automatically make it a sacred human right. This thread is proof that your right to says retarded poo poo on the internet is still in place. Too loving bad it might be harder to make a living off of it, sorry you might have to try contributing to society in some useful way instead. And don't even think about comparing blogging/youtubing to actual activism either. Only the dumbest, fattest, and laziest of fucks thinks they're 'contributing' to a cause with a whiny video/tumblr blog/think piece.

One of the things that nulls out your video's revenue is if it covers "controversial subject matter"
If your videos cover news stories, and you had to choose between making money and covering a scandal, that would be unfortunate. If you mention the scandal once in your entire broadcast, the whole thing gets demonetized, so even if you feel it's worth it to sacrifice a day's revenue to cover the controversial subject, if you follow it up at all that's another day's revenue gone.

Good thing only a FREAKING MORON would try to get their news from a Youtube journalist instead of just reading GBS like a smarty.

Youtubers need to veil all stories as 'hypotheticals", symbolic metaphors and allegorical tales to skirt around this issue.

They definitely need to rework how that goes. Right now it's basically just a keyword bot, as far as I can tell, which flags a hell of a lot of things. I assume that they are trying to cut out current news because either

A) Companies love Fox News or something and they don't want to be associated with liberal stuff

or

B) People were posting videos of people getting shot/blown up and monetizing it, which is pretty hosed up (this happened)

Who knows, but they really need to fix it.

Sites like youtube, facebook and twitter have given a voice to a group of people that successful societies have generally shunned, and for good reasons. Those voices are also from the same people most easily swayed by advertising, manipulative thought control tactics, and idealistic thinking (Bernie Sanders "Give me your $20"). It's all just the rich and powerful taking advantage of people less wise, properly educated and wealthy as them to gather more finite resources before we all run out of clean drinking water. It's gonna happen sooner than you would think. Also, videogames are not art.
