I was honestly surprised you didn't roll into Epirus instead - a free temple seemed right up Egypt's alley.

You've got two moves left if you want them, and I think you can still do your A+S attempt if you want to give up the Cleopatra culture placement? I'll wait for a confirm before I do that - otherwise it's TURN 6-1-4 - It is Japan's turn!

2) Spend 2 ideas to pick up State Religion, gaining 2 mood (Free Ed).

Free) Suiko uses Japanese Buddhism to revert the fortress in Nara to my color.

3) Activate Nara to build troops. 2 gold* for Infantry, 1 mood for Cavalry Infantry (Draft). Gain a culture (Nationalism).

Free) Spend 2 mood, Absolute Power for a fourth action.

4) Movement
  • Inf+Cav move from Nara to Egyptnawa, spending food+ore* (Roads)
  • Inf+Inf+Cav move from...okay, it's officially named Sendai now, attack the Barbarian village by Nara, spending food (roads). No cards, persist until captured or dead.

My original plan was to take out the barbarian camp to prevent Japan from using it as a staging ground; the free settler put Nara in reach, which would have accomplished about the same thing. Swiping Epirus wouldn't have done anything to slow down Japan's attacks. Barring Scouts I had extremely good odds of taking Nara, but apparently the dice have decided I'm not allowed to win any combats that aren't literally guaranteed :argh:

TURN 6-1-4 - It is Japan's turn!

Nara builds 2 Infantry instead, due to component limitations.

Japanese forces take over Egyptinawa!
Japan gets 1 Gold. Egypt gets a Settler in a city of their choice.

Japanese forces assault a Barbarian camp!
Japan automatically kills the lone unit due to Steel Weapons.
Barbarian forces: 1 Army = 1d6 = 3! 0 hits!
Japan takes the camp, gaining 1 Gold!
Japan may keep or raze the camp.

So the rules state that you only assign hits to leaders in a Barbarian attack - during a normal player-vs-player battle, you only assign hits to units, with the Leader dying if they're left alone with a foreign unit. The exact definition of 'alone with a foreign unit' is a bit unclear, but as with Suiko's case in Turn 6-1-3, my interpretation is that if you're in your own city that doesn't exactly count as alone.
