On this day twenty years ago, Bill Gates released his best program ever - Microsoft Visual Studio. While Microsoft has not been without its share of controversies, there's one thing all us "code jockeys" can agree on: Microsoft Visual Studio is great! Post your appreciation for Microsoft Visual Studio here along with your favorite "tips" and "tricks"

does 2017 have the new installer they were promising or is it the same 2013/2015 installer that takes like 12 hours ?

i am ok with visual studio unless it fucks up or crash or does something stupid. and to be fair, most of the really lovely things i've had to deal with in vs over the years were due to plugins and not the ide itself, so i can't complain too much

The worms crawl out.
I have the option of xcode or qtcreator or VS-in-a-VM for c++ dev and VS is better by far.

xcode is ok for non-c++ stuff.

I should bug IT for a dedicated PC for VS but meh

VS is hella fast

unless you have resharper installed, in which case enjoy visible lag between typing characters and seeing them on the screen, let alone anything more complex

Grab your phone and take a short video to tell us a little about your Visual Studio journey:

How long have you been using Visual Studio?
What is the coolest software you’ve built?
What do you like about Visual Studio?
How about birthday wishes? How would you say, “Happy Birthday, Visual Studio” in your native language?

Check out this example from Sara Ford:

i've got a pretty good dev machine tbh, i usually run 2-4 instances of vs + resharper at a time with no issues. this is some kind of weird vs extension corruption bug that for some reason lasts between reinstalls
