Formal introductions with the Dog-Mutants and revelations

FLASHBACK The sun looms red at high noon through a sparkly duststorm far above the tops of the clouds. The misfit party of dog-mutants and true mutants pant and gather to take a sip of life-giving water after crossing blasted craters and claustrophobic office halls. The dog-mutants are excited but exausted. Killing the robot-things have given them a surge of new hope despite the week of sleepless nights. One by one they introduce themselves...

"Plank" grunts the Bulldog, holding a metal pipe.

"Watson" pants an athletic Labrador

"Heisenberg, Stalker" growls the pug faced mutt as he scratches the pink flesh near his cyber eye absently.

"...and I am Yukawa. At least the name I was given was 'Yukawa-318' by the robot cutters. We all had a numerical designation after our names. We forsake those 'designations' as slave names. Well those of us who escaped that is" The graying Shih Tzu gestures widely to his companions with an outstreched paw.
"Glad you were not fooled by the Overseer's lies about us carrying diseases" Yukawa says, slurping from a water bottle. "The Overseer is manipulative as he is cruel. And I use 'he' as shorthand. Even as the oldest here I only know the Overseer as the Overseer, be it a 'he' 'she' or 'they'."

Long story short, the dog-mutants state they are from the underground of a ruined tower in L16

Jones has the opportunity to inspect the symbols on Yukawa's EMP rifle and on DIsco's laser pistol.

A wolf's head on the apex of a pyramid is one side of both firearms. On the reverse is...something more interesting.

The hair on the back of Jones' neck stands up. What is written on both guns is the word "a-DEN" with a stylized "a". A clue to Eden? A coincidence? Some sort of shared heritage between these dog-mutants and the People?

People's Assembly II

Ark DEV Statistics

Warfare :4

Apart from some simple barricades, the Ark is totally defenseless against enemies from the outside. Battle Level 1.

Food: 11

Starvation still isn’t far away, but the People have enough grub to cover their day to day needs – as long as the harvest or the hunt isn’t threatened. Typically, you can get two rations of grub in return for one bullet. Decrease the Session Body Count (page 115) by one.

Culture: 2

With the exception of Chroniclers, the People completely lack any form of cultural expression beyond tales by the trashcanfire.

Tech: 2 + 8 (turning in Bike and Umbrella to the Dawn Vault)

The People have achieved a basic technical knowledge by collecting artifacts from the Zone and studying them. Simple
constructions, such a mill or a distillery, can be built.

What Project should The People work on next?

Choose One: Defenses, Cannibalism (warning!), Cropland, Slave Market, Pigsty, Temple, Zone Wrestling, Stables, Tavern

NEW: Watchtower, Mill, Smokehouse, Water Wheel, Workshop

Kid Horizon, Gearhead.

A lanky youth of about 17, 'Kid Horizon' as he calls himself, has spiky brown windswept hair and a cheerful demeanor as long as he is indulging in his twin passions of heights or explosions. Part chemist, part mechanic; the energetic Kid supports himself by making scrap shotguns and the like, but he excels with making demolition devices and loud scrap cannons. Unfortunately he doesn't always have the bullets or scrap to be making the boom-gun of his dreams; so he occupies Rascal's Peak quite often, scouting the horizon and making deals with Stalkers to plan one salvage expedition or another. A lover of heights, Kid Horizon wears a warm white scarf and multi-filter goggles as he glides down to the bay below with his personal backpack-glider. Most other mutant's think his thrill seeking is nuts and give him a bit of respect despite his youth.

NPC: Scylla, Boss

Scylla. The moniker of a monster adopted by one who aspires to be one. Scylla is a young woman in her mid twenties but the physical deformities of her aggressive mutations have given her the body of one of the elderly. A powerful Telekine and a rumored mental wytch, Scylla prefers to flaunt the mastery of her most obvious power by levitating with her toes barely above the ground instead of walking. She dresses in a ragged voluminous black cloak with shaved head, but her eyes are a brilliant captivating green. Slaves whisper those eyes bore into the soul and can implant orders that they simply must carry out, leaving their heads in a grey-amnesiac fog. The power of her mutations have taken their toll, giving her wrinkled and cracked skin far beyond her years. Her joins often swell up with arthritis, turning her hands into useless claws. Weirder still, boils black-as-night sometimes appear under her skin and they move about like no normal flesh ever should. Regardless Scylla embraces her flaws gladly for the mutations that set her apart and make her a feared boss leader. She advocates for mutants to embrace their nature and use their powers to prove they are super-human. Her following is more of a cult where the members worship the most mutated and Lady Scylla most of all.

Shortly after arriving at the Ark, Disco & Sarge slink up the stairs to the Nosebleeds. The stairway is lined with Enforcers from each gang, eyeballing and flexing on each other as much as Disco. The Stairs are real who's who of Enforcers: Franklin, Tiny, Stiches, and Annie. Disco, trembling, grabs Sarge's collar and drags her past the evil woman.

Arriving at the Nosebleeds, Disco pushes past the Enforcers guarding the entrance to the stands and waits for an appropriate pause in the frantic arguments and shouting.

New Defenses:

Harpoon cannons on the walls of the stadium. These fire harpoons, but they trail a netting behind them. Think of a shuttle cock. A direct hit on any drone will not only damage it, but cause the netting to foul the rotors and make it crash. An indirect hit or near miss can cause the netting to the have the same effect. For non drone targets, the netting can still tangle them up.

Hemi, Boss

Hemi would have been a gearhead if he wasn't born such a meathead. A big slab of a dude, Hemi exudes an aura of cigarette smoke and engine grease. Matte black sunglasses and 50's greaser coal-black hair frame his cold crocadilian smile when he talks. Hemi lusts after all artifacts from the Old World, knowing that ancient power gives him power. He particularly covets vehicles, engines, turbines, cannons, and anything that displays a raw overwhelming show of force. He is one of the only mutants in the Ark to own an orange pickup truck, which he tinkers with and protects zealously. His followers make homemade bikes and skateboards, then fight among themselves as to who has the right to tether them to the truck with ropes and chains. The right of passage for Hemi's gang is to bare both forearms and press them against a running, hot engine. The brand "Ford Hemi" is blistered into the skin. Hemi is the most frequent of the bosses to challenge a mutant for their hard earned artifacts. He seems to always know where to find whom he's looking for.

Boxer, Boss

Short and stocky, Boxer is built like fireplug. Despite his reptilian scaled skin and an alligator's tail; his quiet, confident demeanor and tradesman's attitude draws attention and followers. Boxer made a name for himself by tirelessly deep diving into the bay to build and repair the structures necessary to make the baseball stadium into a natural harbor. Somewhere along the line he found a faded blue cap that reads "Local 11" on top of crossed wrenches. Boxer's enforcers and followers are easily identifiable by the crossed wrenches motif tattoo bared somewhere on their naked flesh. Those who follow Boxer most closely have adopted their leader's taciturn stoicism and "for the People, for the Ark" builder's attitude. Boxer's cadre includes several raft sailors who owe their lives to his aquatic rescues. Boxer often sports a worn pair of jeans and a pinstriped 'Minis' jersey or he goes bare chested with the mutation of ridges of scales up his back and shoulders for all to see.

Arriving at the Nosebleeds, Disco pushes past the Enforcers guarding the entrance to the stands and waits for an appropriate pause in the frantic arguments and shouting.

Gave Annie a passive Wits roll to see if she notices Disco's new laser toy. Apparently not.

Annie leers at Disco with a mouth too-wide full of tiny teeth filed to points. It does nothing to improve her pasty pock-marked and fire-scarred complexion. She keeps her distance from Sarge though and lets you pass with little more than a spit of phlegm. This time.

The Bosses are in conclave and fierce debate. Actually they are just spitefully bickering over a trival matter. Johammed, flanked by two of his meathead Enforcers is pointing a sausage-like finger at Hemi, who just leans back against a stack of boxes and smiles his crocadilian smile. Boxer's arms are folded and he looks darkly at Hemi, occasionally shaking his head; while Lady Scylla sits in a wheelchair, toes curled like claws, but back erect and regal, even though she looks bored. Marlotte sits on the sidelines, somewhat ignored and somewhat looking lost.

"...was a compound bow and that was from Stiches stash. My stash. Hemi are you listening to me or do you have grease in your ears you dirty..." Johammed punctuates with his finger.

A moment pregnant with volcanic hate passes as the five Bosses turn to look at Sarge, then Disco. Marlotte smiles. "We have an explorer, returned!". "Speak" utters Lady Scylla, her word pointed like a dagger.

Disco shuffles forward, head bowing deep. In a high-pitched voice, he tries his best to project:

"Greet'ns bosses." He nods especially to Scylla, the only mutant more terrifying than Annie. "Me and the boys, we went way east. Ran into all sorts of nasty t'ings. Gobworms the size of tha" -Disco jabs a thumb over his shoulder at the stadium- "Bowl, floatin' flesh-balls that eat metal for grub, and them ghouls the Rotwalker used to gab 'bout. We scrapped by, made some things real dead, and almost starved to death 'couple times."

He takes a deep breath. "Hugust saved me an' Sarge more than once, and without Craig and Jones, we would've been surprised something fierce. 'Course, Craig led us true, would've made the 'Walker proud." Disco frowns, a little disgusted as his own magnanimity. "But the big t'ing is..." Disco looks at his feet, and kicks a piece of scrap. "We found us some neighbors."

Disco's Presentation to the Bosses

Lady Scylla stops Disco at the mention of Zone-Ghouls and the cabal of Bosses begin to interrogate him, curiously. In particular Boss Johammed queries Disco about numbers, weapons and tactics of the Ghouls; while Boxer nods slowly, sucking on his teeth.

"We know the Zone-Ghouls are nocturnal" Boxer rumbles, "it stands to reason they may lair underground as well. We will have to investigate that sewer entrance you found in the wastes ..."

"... and send a kill team" Johammed finishes the sentence, nodding at Boxer then smiling nastily at Disco.

Disco may make a Sense Emotion roll on Boss Johammed and another on Boss Boxer

As Disco explains the animal mutant refugees as eloquently as he can, he leans on Sarge for support. Guffaw's, grimaces, and narrow eyes, but in all cases intense interest is his audience. Marlotte is immediately sympathetic, but the others are undecided.

What specifically does Disco say about the animal mutants and how they can benefit the Ark? Or does he play it fully sympathetic? What does Disco say about the battle and the Overseer?

Disco explains how they found a dying mutant, then tracked them back to the Overseer's domain. Disco covers the following, creatively inventing where he finds the story a bit boring:
1. The animal mutants are slaves of the Overseer.
2. Overseer tried to kill Disco & crew. (Leaving out the bit about the Overseer just wanting the animal mutants)
3. The Overseer's pets are terrible scrap monsters, but they die quick. They can even fly(!) and fight without regard for their lives.
4. The animal mutants are useful, but they need guidance. Disco helpfully volunteers himself to manage their integration. (Disco wants to be a boss.)
5. There are more where the animal mutants came from.
