The danger from secret societies is a old fear in America with a long history, though it used to be Catholics and Masons TBH if you think of online communities that use democratic mod processes, (like slashdot, Reddit, Digg etc) they always get taken over by a cabal with an agenda, so maybe it's not a loony fear Put it this way, if the Illuminati was in charge and they wanted to get rid of the excess population in America, they'd engineer a disease with a very expensive cure. I used to think that a good chunk of the poo poo going on was managed by some sort of vague group of v rich influential people (maybe set up during the cold war, but lost its reason to exist after the USSR fell and the people in it just kept doing what they were doing) then trump got elected and lol its pretty obvious now that no one is running the asylum.
