Well, poo poo. You can't get much out of a dead wizard. Even if that was the best kind. Never know when JP might be able to help with some counter-hexing or whatever the gently caress it is he does. I say, "Alright, change in plans. Ivy, can you get things rolling on the meet? Put the word out that we're calling for a grand parlay, hit up some of Arcanis's ghost crowd maybe. They've got connections with fuckin' everyone. Plus that's the kind of poo poo that'll catch some attention. I gotta pull an rear end in a top hat wizard out of the fire in the meantime, but you've got my number. Sound good?"

I tap out a quick reply as well.

Murphy lets you in, holding onto your weapons, and stands outside the door. You step in and see an office in disarray. Copperstone is sitting in a chair, glaring at a small bookworm encased in glass. You notice the red defensive screen doesn't seem to be installed in this area, and sit down when offered a seat.

"Ah Miss Reynolds. Here to fulfil your part of the bargain?" She reaches into her deks and pulls out a small briefcase, and pats its chrome exterior. "I've certainly fulfilled my part."

You narrow your eyes and take a split second to send your senses over to the brief case. It's the book, the actual bloody songbook of he-who-sings.

Copperstone lifts her eyes and smiles. "Do we have a deal, give me the book and I'll tell you where He-Who-Sings songbook is."

Your cellphone goes off and Reggie provides an address, somewhere near the suburbs of Abbotsford. A quick 25-minute drive and you are there, Ivy kissing you goodbye. You walk around, texting Reggie, and soon the overweight, middle-aged wizard is beside you, panting due to the effort of jogging.

I nod at Nick, "Alright, yeah, let me take a look." Corpse? poo poo, that's even odds for being my man JP, and if it isn't... well, the wizard may well get gutted by the demon thing if I take this too slow. Still, gotta get some intel before I jump out and kill all the motherfuckers in the room, so time to get my sneak on. "Wait here, Reggie. Let the pro do their thing."

Olivia steadied herself on the ordering counter as the creatures smashed their way through the wall. Dalir seemed to know what he was doing with whatever the singing creature was, but she had to keep the wolves off of him (and his lady friend) somehow.

As Olivia had ducked inside the Arbys, she looked towards the side wall, where she had foreseen the attack would come from - the bird monster...and shadow wolves? That would be a problem. She told Anna to hide in the back, and quickly went to the kitchen...

She was frightened, and a little heartsick hearing Robbie's voice singing; it was an odd feeling, being betrayed but knowing that really, objectively you deserved it. She had a handful of salt in her pocket, but she couldn't even see Robbie, and she didn't have time to check her cards for him right now.

Shadows could look like pretty much anything, so if they looked like wolves, it had to mean something, right? They'd act like pack predators, which meant isolating and bringing down the weak link with pack tactics. Well, she hoped that was right; her vision got a little sketchy around the time the wall blew in, but that "The Nature of Things" episode on timberwolves she'd seen as a teenager had seemed pretty authoritative, and most magic had some sort of internal logic...

Olivia glanced at the wolves who immediately started padding towards her. She glanced back and forth between them as they split up, one holding her attention up front as the other stalked around towards her side. It was getting increasingly difficult to keep them both in her line of sight, so she slowly, shakily backed away.

Olivia tore through the dirty Arbys kitchen, looking for an advantage. She stuck a knife in her purse, but knew that wouldn't be enough by itself. She looked around, and spotted...

As she glanced back and forth, Olivia saw that both shadow wolves were now advancing on her - slowly, carefully. She'd literally backed herself up against a wall, so now they were taking their time to make sure all of her exits were cut off. As one wolf got a little too close, Olivia pulled out a lighter and flicked it on! She saw the creature shy away for a moment, but the heat and light of the tiny flame was too insignificant to repel the shadows. But Olivia waited, cagily looking back and forth between the wolves, waving the lighter back and forth ineffectually as they drew in.

Olivia's face lit up as she pulled open the grease trap and the sour smell of rotting oil hit her nose. She grabbed a nearby bucket and scooped up a hunk of semicongealed lard, and then dumped it on the floor before smeared it around the floor with a nearby broom. She quickly covered the floor around her, leaving only a narrow channel for her to walk on, and a small island of ungreased floor behind the counter for her to stand in. This was a profoundly poor plan that could go wrong in a million different ways, but she didn't have time for anything else!

The wolves got close enough for Olivia to feel their breath on her arms (if they even had breath!). She muttered a little agnostic's prayer she dropped the lighter, setting the grease ablaze!

Dalir and Olivia
Robbie glares at Dalir, takes a step forward and then backs off as Dalir raises the salt bag. He looks angrily at Anna and outstretches his hand towards her.

"He-Who-Sings will offer us EVERYTHING. All he needs is your voice!"

Before Anna can respond, the floor lights on fire. Olivia yells and ducks as a wolf lunges at her, and kicks it into the fire. The wolf lets out a howl before the flames lick at its skin, lighting it aflame. The other wolf looks confused, and the fire rolls over it's body. Fre warps, whisps across the floor, forming a rose on the ground before grasping at the rotten drapes of the Arby's. In a few moments the whole place is on fire, the exits blocked by roaring flames and the area filling with smoke.

Robbie takes a step towards Anna, trying to grab her, but Dalir glares at him. He takes one look at Anna, one look at the bag of salt Dalir has in his hands. Letting out a howl of rage, Robbie dissipates into thin air.

Dalir lets out a breath of relief and then starts to cough as smoke fill his lungs. The wall next to him explodes as the bird like creature smashes through, flinging Dalir into the kitchen. Olivia rushes to his side, helping him up. From the smoke of the fire, two wolves, quite on fire and quite angry, encircle the two. Snarling, they distract the two as the bird creature smashes into Olivia, pinning her into the ground. It lets out a large squawk it raises one large clawed finger and shoves it into Olivia's mouth. As it clutches something Olivia lets out a scream, that is suddenly stopped as it pulls and wrenches at her voice. Anna manifests behind Olivia and grabs her hand, trying to pull her away from the bird-like creature.

Rumors of the saints fighting dragons and grabbing souls of the damned have been wide-spread across the vampire community as their patron saint. She stands above the body of a man, or well, parts of a man, and is glaring upwards at a wizard.

The wizard is on the roof of a house, wearing a leather jacket and weilding a baseball bat, though the runes engraved on the baseball suggest it's actually threating. The wizard is yelling at the Saint.

"I have no idea what happened here, I owed the bastard and was asked to protect him."

"As to what I am up to.. well. Let's just say that I'm under contract for a lower power, and that contract comes with certain restrictions as I spend my time up here."

Copperstone gets up from her chair and runs her hand across the desk, the filing cabinet, the discarded bottle of champagne and other finery that sits in the unfinished office.

"This desk, that laptop and this bottle of champagne? After spending some time on this plane of existence let's just say I've grown fond of material items. A girls best friend are diamonds, aren't they?"

The chair makes an audible creak as Copperstone leans back, evaluating you. She taps the briefcase, which briefly lights up in hellfire runes, and continues talking.

"So, the current plan is to summon He-Who-Sings in a form we can deal with and deal with it permanently." She motions to the book you have in your hand. "The fairy queens got together and overwrite his second songbook. Powerful magic and all that. So after you give me the book, I'll copy the songbook, make some alterations to lessen his power when he manifests, summon him and use his power to sever the contract binding me to the down-under."

Copperstone looks at you and smiles. "Once he is summoned, a hero comes in and murders the gently caress out of him. Or maybe a wizard comes by and steals some of his power. I've taken measures to make sure he gets put down. Besides, regardless of if you give me the book or not, he's coming. You've felt it haven't you? You've heard it? That sweet, sweet black song. "You're crazy." I try not to pause too long after that one, but I feel like it has to be said. "You're also the first person to be upfront with me about what they want to do with these drat books. Look, if you want to pull this off, you're going to need more than one wizard who happens to be good as some misdirection. If that song is as prevalent as it seems, we're going to need multiple wizards and some real muscle. Ones that won't immediately try to stab one or both of us in the back as soon as that song plays. So you really have no idea why a wizard would pop Jean-Paul just like that? I think it has something to do with this whole He-Who-Sings thing, but I can't tell why the oracle behind this keeps messing with me and mine."

I pause again, looking over at Murphy for a second. "And I'm also going to need someone watching my parents. Because that may be what got Jean-Paul killed, and I actually like my parents. Something bigger than this is going on, and you're the only part that seems to be making any sense. Which is a problem, because your plan is at best.. At best, a huge undertaking. A few shots richocet over the bird demons face, one even nails it right in the eye. Its claws snatch back and Olivia lets out a scream of pain as it leaps off at her and swipes at Dalir. Sliding, Dalir dodges the blow and lands right next to a plastic bottle of oil. Picking it up he hurls right into the bird creatures maw, lighting its insides on fire. As the bird tries to sing, it emits a roaring flame. What was just a large building fire now becomes an inferno, flames licking higher and higher. Without a focus it starts to waver, though it will take some time for it to fade completly.

Outside you see your apprentice, frantically circling the area and dragging something behind her. She shouts out to you, but her sounds are consumed by the fire.

The wolves circle and get ready to pounce, one glaring at Olivia, the other coughing up a weird spine thing and aiming it at Anna.

OOC posted:

Congrats, the bird demon can't sing anymore and will dissipate in a few rounds. It's going to start focusing on its mission, going after Olivia or Anna.

Also the building is now on fire, and collapsing. This isn't looking good!

Olivia, you are no longer pinned, you get to post and then the wolves will act (And then die)

The Arby's is on fire. Any attempt to Escape the Situation without resolving this predicament will automatically add the tag "You are on Fire" to your character. (yes, even if you roll 10+)

Olivia coughed and hacked as she tried to take in air, all messed up from the demonic claw down her throat. She spat out some blood as she got to her feet, feeling the inferno all around her. The smoke filling the building made it difficult to open her eyes, but she could hear growling and what sounded like a respectably-sized explosion. Not knowing what to do, she felt around in her bag for the cards, but she knew she wouldn't have time to do a reading. Olivia set her jaw - she was not going to die here, burnt to death by a fire that she started! Or mauled by shadow wolves! She concentrated; she'd studied enough about the actual history of tarot to know that, in a very objective sense, it was bullshit. Sure, there was occult symbolism and whatnot, and maybe Alanna could tell her how much of it was legit, but it always seemed like the cards were just an excuse to sit quietly and clear her thoughts for a moment. Maybe they were just a focus...that was X-Men 101, right?

Well, that's what she hoped, anyway. She felt a sudden twinge of...something, and instinctively dove forward, narrowly avoiding disembowelment at the hands of the first wolf! Half-blinded, she reached for what looked like it could be a defensive weapon - it turned out to be a metal service tray that was quite hot. With a frustrated shriek, she flung it aside, and it somehow managed to get in between Anna and the second wolf's weird spines, deflecting it harmlessly!

Shakily, Olivia got back to her feet as the wolves were finally overcome by the fires on their body. She felt suddenly exhausted by whatever mystic effort that had cost her. Now all she had to worry about the bird demon, the fire, the smoke, the building collapsing, possibly Robby, and the rather painful burns on her hand. Woo.

With a mighty groan, a portion of the roof collapses and a rush of oxygen fills the room. Fire spirals up, reaching the oxygen like a lover, and then grows in greater intensity, greedily eating up anything in its path. Dalir get's the worst of it as the fire rolls over his body.

A painful screech is heard as the bird creature lifts it's head to sing, instead spreading fire everywhere. Hunched over Ray, everything seems slower while I evaluate my situation. My first priority: Ray's not going to be doing anything but bleeding, and he probably should stop doing that as soon as possible. My second priority: The rear end in a top hat that busted me up isn't bleeding, and he probably should start doing that as soon as possible. I have my gun, myself, and Raven, and I know how to solve one of those problems right now.

"Hey, uh, Ray," I whisper, as I turn my focus to Raven, circling overhead. "I dunno if you can hear me, but, I'm sorry you got shot?" Above, Raven turns, searching. "Especially since you really didn't have to do it." Raven and I spot the goon shaking out the last of his dizziness as he takes aim at me. "But I learned today I should be taking care of my own poo poo." The goon staggers forward for a second, leans hard on his front leg.

I draw my gun and fire behind me in- okay, not like one move, but, like, almost one move. The goon's forward knee blows out as I stand and turn, before lunging forward, faster than even I thought I would, and catching him square in the gut with my shoulder. The momentum carries us into the still-open car door, and I hear something crunch inside the guy as I drive him into the edge of the seat, then, with a shout, shove him up into the car, where he slumps, out cold.

So that's one problem solved.

That finished, I move as quickly as I can to get Ray into the truckbed. Raven tries to help out, but doesn't do much more than rumple Ray's collar for all their tugging. But, somehow, I dig deep and shoulder my uncle like the unexpected burden he is and get him loaded in as gently as possible. Then, grabbing the jackass with the shotgun from the driver's side, I tug him out and climb in. The keys jingle as I turn them in the ignition, and the engine thrums. What a day to drive a car for the first time ever.

Olivia and Dalir
Dalir takes a deep breath, trying to steel his mind but somewhere, deep within the reptilian center of his mind, a scream comes out and he frantically rolls around, trying desperately to put out the fire. Olivia meanwhile is coughing due to the heavy amount of smoke, trying desperately to find the exit.

The bird finds her first, rushing towards her and knocking her down. It tears into her leg, and she lets out a scream that gets strangled as the bird shoves one large hooked claw down her throat. Blood curdles up from her mouth as it probes deeper, and deeper and starts to pull.

Olivia yell turns into a scream and then quiets down to a whisper as her voice is pulled out of her. As her voice manifests into a blue ball into the bird's hand Dalir hops onto the bird's back, wrenching it away from its target.

The bird lets out a yell and smashes through one of the walls, Dalir goes tumbling out and on his apprentice's side, who stares wild-eyed at the bird creature. It ignores her and turns around to grab Olivia again, but Anna has already helped her up and they both scramble out of the collapsing arbys.

With one last roar the bird creature, with half of Olivia's voice, disappears back to where it came.

Your council meeting is incredibly frustrating. Elias, prattles on about a certain vampire gang that is growing in power and must be dealt with, especially with the delays in the homunculus project. Very little is spoken about He-Who-Sings, all interest on the personal attack on the Wizards. The council agrees to meet again in two weeks time to discuss the threat.

The police officers behind you are very interested in your story! Roll heart to see how you mislead or trick them.

Olivia's flesh was sizzling and smoking as she came hurtling out of the Arby's, burned quite badly by the fire that she'd set for reasons that had probably made sense at the time. She gasped for breath, wincing and coughing as the cleaner air irritated her scorched and smoke-filled lungs. She managed a quiet "Thank you, Anna..." to the ghost hovering over her, unable to talk any louder than that. Maybe she normally would've blamed the smoke-inhalation, but there was clearly a more...mystical cause. All she wanted to do was pass out on the pavement and sleep a little bit, but she heard the sound of Dalir losing consciousness and realised his injuries were probably around 50% her fault. She levered herself onto her knees long enough to get her phone out and call an ambulance...

Olivia has learned that Robbie's in cahoots with He-Who-Sings - though she's not entirely sure who's working for who - which I propose might count as something significant for the Night Faction. I'll raise Night and lower Wild, since I don't think I've spent much time working with or opposing them recently. Olivia now owes Anna a debt for saving her life and also her voice! Also, she'll try to visit the Council next session, if only to pass along what she knows about He-Who-Sings and its involvement with the ghosts.
