Kinda funny given the show has had episodes about dealing with extremists in your movement trying to drive you to violence, how annoying and damaging 'allies' who think they're the heroes of the story are, and mindfulness and cognitive therapy. The show is clearly aware of its fans and trying to un-break their brains a little bit.

iirc from the days i visited 4chan, there are like super secret online yaoi clubs with like 10 passwords and layers of encryption so chinese fujoshi can pirate yaoi games as for steven universe, i remember it being what the remains of the the homestuck fandom latched onto after HS kind of died out. (it switched to undertale for a while but back to SU when that died too). i don't think any actual kids watch it?

it doesn't change puritan movie standards, but it drastically changes what hollywood considers a safe investment in a movie. transformers and superhero movies make bank in china, and the only reason why universal will go ahead with its sure-to-be terrible movie monster cinematic universe is because tom cruise's The Mummy made over $100 million overseas in spite of crashing here. meanwhile, a mobster movie that reunites scorcese, de niro, and harvey keitel got dropped by paramount because it's "too risky" (although their loss is netflix's gain) we're not going to see a correction by hollywood like the one that happened going into the 1970s because it's not just about the domestic box office anymore
