It is a bit weird how the other team members just came and went with no remark between movies. I did like the reference to Max from the first M:I in Fallout, I had to check if the actress was related to Redgrave for how well she nailed the part (she's not.)

It's a shame Cavill can't be in the sequels. Fallout was the first movie where I genuinely liked him.

Yeah he rocked the gently caress out of that `stache too.

Is it possible to do a fresh/original take on James Bond anymore? Austin Powers, Bourne, and MI:3-6 don’t leave a lot of room. They painted themselves into a corner by aping the style of the Bourne movies, the newer MI films are doing the perfect blend of ‘silly but serious’ that the Bond films should/could have done but missed out on. It seems like now they’re going to be stuck in a constant state of course correction like the DC movies.

The best they could do would be like a Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy -esque period procedural with a little more action but there’s no way the studio would get behind that.

I liked in fallout how you had a team of people who mattered and doing things even though it basically had a guy who was the most important super spy, the world needs him sooooo much.

M:I III isn't especially good, but it served as a proof-of-concept for what a good M:I movie might look like, which I think might be how JJ earned his reputation as a Franchise Whisperer.

JJ didn't bring back Mission Impossible, that was all Tom Cruise. 3 was literally a bunch of Alias scenes that was too expensive to do. Have a look at how little each scene has to do with each other, Ethan was basically a grey hound chasing a piece of fur that is the Rabbits Foot which typical JJ you never know anything. JJ doesn't care what the plot device or how little sense it is as long it is vaguely chased see; Luke's map, poo poo ton of red matter.

Even if one was to attribute MI's resurrection(It never died, MI:2 did $1/2 billion) to JJ, I can't think of another that he did the same for without it burning down after. The only thing JJ seems to have actual talent for is being a producer. He has a pretty good eye on what to green light but as an on the ground creative he is hack trash.

I use to rate 3 over 2 but over time I recognised 2 for what it is, a John Woo movie given the wrong script/property, there is a strong 'What did you think was going to happen giving it to Woo?'. He John Woo the gently caress out of it and that is pretty endearing looking back even if it is batshit insane. It ignored the quick cut shake trend that is now all consuming which is a strong plus. I much rather see an action sequence than to see nothing at all.

Face Off is a fantastic chunk of B grade action ham I would take over MI:3 any day not even considering the much higher tier Woo classics.

With the clever disguises, exotic locales and sneaky betrayals, "Mission: Impossible III" looks a lot like a souped-up, big-screen "Alias" as long as you substitute agent Ethan Hunt for Sydney Bristow.

"There were so many things that we wanted to do on 'Alias' that we could never in a million years afford," explains writer/director JJ Abrams
. "One of the things that we did in this movie was this Vatican break-in sequence. It's a very visually, intricately told sequence, and in television, you just never have the time to do the kind of pieces that you need to really tell it properly."

I still really like M:I 1. It's so rare for spy movies to have anything resembling actual espionage plots in them. No supervillain, no superweapon, just some rear end in a top hat who wants to sell out his country for a few million bucks.

This is what made MI:1 for me.

You are going to have to speak to Martin Campbell. He is some sort of James Bond savant starting 2 Bond Eras after a collapse in interest in Bond from bad movies.

An inexplicable mess that doesn't know what it is doing or is happening. When the base explodes you don't know why, what, how or cared topped off with unbelievably awful effects work.

After the initial reveal of Titans several months ago, have RLM commented on the new DC streaming content since it's come out?

It seems like despite the initial bad reception at announcement it feels like I'm not hearing anything very negative about the show now and just about every Youtube clip I see of it makes me almost want to subscribe to the service just to watch the show.
