Intelligent and bright, they explored a world that was new and strange to them. They liked it, they thought - a whole world just for them! They were dimly aware that a God had created them, was watching them; they called out to him, thanking him in a chittering language, before running off.

Not many people believed 2012 would actually be the end. After all, Mayan weirdness or not, the world had been spinning for a very long time, and most everyone was sure that it was going to keep spinning. And they were right, mostly. The world is still around. It's just... different.
It isn't like everything just changed overnight, but everything changed. Everything. Babies were born with pointed ears, or grew up stocky and topped out at 4ft. Other people, human their whole lives, suddenly sprouted fangs, turned green, or just shot up three feet and lost half their vocabulary all at once. UFO sightings became Dragon sightings. And biggest of all, magic came back (yes, back, it turns out it was around before and was just taking a break)

Things didn't just change magically. Over the years, lines on the map shifted, governments gained and lost power, but buisness continued to rule the day. Growing bigger and bigger, Megacorps rule the day now. With full legal extraterritoriality, they have the money, the armies, and basically all the power.
Decades later, the world no longer resembles our present day. Ghosts and spirits walk the world, private armies hold firepower any country would kill for, and accidentally backing into someone on public transport could end with you quite literally being smashed by a troll. And every day, in every way, someone is watching you, controlling you, because to work for a megacorp is to be a serf if not a slave.

Not everyone fits into the cookie cutter of life as run by the corps. Not everyone can afford to live above the system, or is lucky enough to be able to make it to one of the few dwindling free states worth being a part of (mostly because they aren't the right species). You, every one of you, fits into that catagory. You aren't part of the system, you don't live in that daylight, 9 to 9 world. You live underneath that, in the cracks it left on society. You do the work no corp will sanction openly. You do the work that makes you feel alive and free. Some of you may be trying to make a difference. Some of you may be trying to give "The Man" your middle finger the best way you know how. Some of you just want to make a living doing what you're good at. Whatever your motivation, whatever your skill, whatever your fee and however long you last... You are a Shadowrunner. Part of a team, in fact. You and your colleagues work as a group, accept jobs as one unit, watch each others back, make sure the team has a safe place to crash and let the heat die down. Except lately, it seems like someone isn't playing fair. Runs that should have been cakewalks end up with burning buildings and heat that won't quit. Contacts are disappearing. And while it would be great to take a break and clean house... bills don't stop just because the work does.

So there's only one thing you can do. Keep working. Keep winning. Get Paid. And sort out the drek on the way.

Regulation Mafia Spiel here:
Shadowrun: Intrigue is a closed setup, very nonstandard game for 17 players. This game will run longer than standard, and because of the extra, non-mafia gameplay to discuss, deadlines will be longer than usual. Days will start at 72 hours, but will probably get shorter as the game progresses. Nights will be a standard 12-24 hours. CYOA sections will occur during twilight, and should take no longer than 24 hours, hopefully less, depending on how quickly people participate. I will do everything I can to keep the thread moving along at a good pace, but because of the mechanics of this game it will simply take a little longer.

Because of the way OOT communication will work in this game, Discord is mandatory. All players will require discord and should expect to be in and out of various servers throughout the game.

This game will absolutely not work without active participation. The shadowrun phases will require at least one or two check ins in a 24 hour period. These phases will not require activity at specific times, but promptness is always appreciated. I am trying to find a balance between keeping the game moving and remaining accessible to players of all time zones.

Standard mafia rules apply, including, but not limited to:
-No editing your posts
-No talking OOT about the game unless specifically allowed
-Do not directly post mod PMs. If you think something might be questionable, ask me.
-No spectator posts.
-No posting after hammer
-If you die, do not post in the thread (a contentless ghost post is fine)
-No encryption, no toxx, no truth or dare
-Do I really need to keep going?
-Seriously, just be cool. This is a game we play with internet people for fun. Treat it as such.

Additional, weird game rules:
-Do not post any numerical value from your PMs. Do not directly post your stats. You may make references, comparisons between your stats, or state that you don't have a certain value (Magic and/or Decking), but no real numbers.
-The thread will remain open after each day for CYOA phases. Because of this you may continue to post after the hammer. Please do not post between flips and the start of the CYOA. Furthermore please do not post during the CYOA if you are not a person who should be participating
-Do not directly quote any OOT communication, either in the thread or in other OOT channels. You may directly quote the thread in other channels, or discord posts in the server in which they were made.

Intelligent and bright, they explored a world that was new and strange to them. They liked it, they thought - a whole world just for them! They were dimly aware that a God had created them, was watching them; they called out to him, thanking him in a chittering language, before running off.
Basic Gameflow
Each day will begin with a Day phase, which is when standard mafia takes place. During the day phase players will also be required to discuss and vote on which two job offers they will accept, out of the jobs made available to the team that day. Each player will also cast two votes for team leaders, players they wish to put in charge of the runs for that day. These votes, once cast, cannot be changed. The two jobs and two players with the most votes will be accepted, with the most voted player and job being paired. Should a team leader die between selection and the end of day, his totals will be ignored and the next highest will take his place. Should the day end with only one team leader receiving any votes at all for any reason, a twilight run off will be held where the first person to receive three votes becomes a leader.

Once the day closes, the Twilight run phase will begin. During this phase, the thread will stay open, and each team leader will select his team. Each team will consist of one third of the players in the thread, rounded down. At 17 players, this means two teams of 5 (leaders count), while 7 players stay home. Team selection will occur in thread. Players are free to discuss such selection during the day, but ultimately it is the each team leaders choice. The specifics of drafting will be described later.

Once the teams are selected, each run will take place in a separate discord channel. They will involve a general strategy selection, an assignment of team members to selected tasks, a few open (or secret) questions for each runner, and a healthy dose of luck. Read these carefully and maybe even take notes. You never know what little detail might end up saving the run, or even help catch a traitor in your midst. Successful runs award loyal players karma, and participating players more karma. Failed runs award traitors karma and may have other consequences.

Players not on the run will also be in a discord channel. They may talk among themselves, and who knows? Maybe home isn't always as safe as we'd like...

After both runs have been completed, the game will enter the Recovery phase, a mostly standard night phase. Some characters may be unable to use night abilities after a run, either because of exhaustion or injuries, or just because they don't have enough time to do both. After actions are completed, the thread will open and the next day begins.

End of the Game
The game can end in several ways. Town will win if all traitors are eliminated. Traitors will win if they ever control the vote, taking total control of the team. In addition, each run will award some combination of profit and heat. Successful runs provide more profit. Wildly successful runs also bring down less heat. Failed runs award less profit, or even cost the team money in expenses, and are also that much more visible. Should the team reach 100 profit (representing an arbitrarily large amount of nuyen), they have finally made enough money to clear their debts and either retire or clean house with the excess. Should heat ever reach 100, assorted unfriendly people will finally have enough hard information to make their move, and the team is... well, “retired”.

Rules Addendum
Stats: Each player character has several attributes that represent their ability to overcome obstacles and complete objectives during a run. They are Strength, Agility, Charisma, Magic, and Decking. Strength represents an aptitude in hurting people, breaking things, and generally getting up close and personal with things most people wouldn't. Agility combines an interest in staying away from your troubles with an interest in making sure your troubles never actually see you. Magic represents your ability to enforce your will directly on the world. Social represents the ability to bargain, deceive, convince, and generally present yourself in whatever light is necessary. Decking is your ability to navigate the world of information that flows around you unseen, and also your ability to gain access to sections of that world owned by people who would rather not have you there. All characters have some physical and social abilities, but magic and decking are not for everyone.

During each recovery phase players may spend accumulated karma to raise their stats, at a cost equal to the value you are raising the stat to (so raising strength from 4 to 5 requires 5 karma). Gaining the Decking or Magic skill from 0 costs an additional 3 karma. Players may not have both magic and decking above 0.

Team Drafting: Each team leader will submit two players for each open slot on their team, in order of preference. Each run will require a different mix of specialties, so carefully reading the description of the run can only help you. An example team draft follows, as I think it will be easier to understand that way.

Podima and Cpig are team leaders. Currently each run consists of 4 total runners, with the leaders taking a slot each. Podima suspects that magic will be greatly important on his run, which he has no skill in. Cpig thinks that the ol' ultraviolence will be the most important aspect of his run.

Podima submits Cpig submits
(Magic users... hopefully) (Suspected bruisers)
1)Mithross 1)Bifauxnen
Ecco Kashuno
(Podima wants muscle) (Cpig thinks he'll need a decker)
2)MMT 2)PMush Perfect
Bifauxnen Little Mac
(Podima needs a social face) (So does Cpig)
3)Quid 3)Quid
TMM TMM

In this example, team selection for slot one has no conflicts, so Podima gets Mithross and Cpig gets Bifauxnen, each gets their first choice. In slot two, Bif is taken now so Podima gets MMT, while Cpig gets PMush. In slot three, both leaders submitted the exact same names in the same slot, so a coin flip will settle who goes with which team.

I am hoping that this system will be a balance between a long true draft every day, and blind or random selection. If it fails spectacularly, it may change on the fly to suit the needs of the game.

More clarifications will be added here as necessary.
