I'm playing 428: Shibuya lockdown or as it will be known in the west Shibuya Scramble.

428 is your standard route based novel but with multiple characters. So it's kind of like Zero Time Dilemma but in a much grander scale.

I'll be writing down summaries of what I think might be important information to the plot.

Here's a link to the first part of my voiced translation of the game:
https://youtu.be/1bEKbqcXU5w

This is the title screen.

The game starts out showing nice shots of Shibuya Tokyo while it goes through actor credits
Then we focus on this van

Very nice van, I would live in it.

Inside of the van the radion is talking about a hostage situation in I think Shinjuku. I could be wrong, I have a bad ear for Japanese.

There's also someone tied up inside with a bag on their head.

They try sending a message to someone saying "I was tricked" or "It was a trap"

Then someone starts banging on the window.

The guy who was inside the van gets an incoming call then the van explodes.

Then the game makes us chose our protagonist.
I chose Kano because he's blue and blue guys are always the good guy.

His story starts when he's looking at his watch and it says 9:58 am.
He talks about how he's nervous about something starting in 2 minutes.

He's at the Shibuya scramble crossing. The narration talks about how there are many police detectives in the crowd.

This Kano guy is one of them too and is part of the mission.

He looks to a girl standing by the Hachikou statue. Her name is Oosawa Hitomi, 19 years old. She's holding a suitcase with 50,000,000 million yen.
Someone who kidnapped her twin called her and told her to show up there with ransom money.

Then a homeless guy starts telling him not to look at his watch too much. Turns out he's a detective too, but likes to dress up for these kind of stake out situations.

They're actually just back up in case the special cops from the government office that are surrounding the girl don't catch the bad guy and gets away with the money.

Then when it gets to 10:00 someone starts talking into his earpiece to watch out for suspicious people
This guys is Kuze Kouji an administrator from the government office, Kano's old boss.
Keeping tabs inside a surveillance van

Then the narration goes on about how some kidnappers do it for money or for a grudge against someone and if it's for money kidnappers don't work alone.
There doesn't seem to be any movement for a while even though it's the designated time.

Then a guy casually approaches her.

Yeah it's pretty surreal. It's honelstly a bit of a turn off, since live action Japanese acting never feels genuine but at least we don't have to see them act.

It's just some guy handing out fliers
Hitomi just ignores him, eventually he leaves.

Kano and Sasayama think he was trying to pick her up because she's so cute
Then Sasayama starts asking Kano what type of girl he likes.

Sasayama takes Kano's phone to see what his girlfriend looks like
Her name is Harumi and apparently looks like a famous person called Nagahama Masami(what a horrible name to pronounce)

Sasayama also talks about his wife Mi-chan and how marrige is so great and that Kano should do it too

It's been a long time since the flier guy apparently
The heavy case of money must be hard on Hitomi's small arms, the narration says

Then the narration starts talking about when the case happened

The abduction of Hitmoi Maria occured at 7PM at the Double L Dinner.
Kano and Sasayama arrive at 7:15

They talk with the woman who reported the incident, asking her to talk about what happened when she was taken away.

They were both supposed to be at a party together. But she got the time wrong and arrived late 1 hour(the one talking)
It was supposed to be a party for foreign exchange students
Hitomi sees Maria getting shoved into a blue station wagon from the restaurant window

She then says "How could this happen to big sister" that made me suspicous of her, I thought the one who was taken was the younger of the two. And twins being in a mystery novel is never good news. This testimony reminded of the case in Ace Attorney 2, which made me add the testimony music in the video LP.
They ask if she saw the culprit , all she says is he was middle aged

Then this gaijin says he saw him too and it's just as Hitomi says.
His name is Leeland Palmer. He's a teacher at the college both Hitomi and Maria go to
Her having a second witness makes me even more suspicious.
Hitomi thinks the culprit was alone because the culprit pushed Maria into the back seat, then he entered the driver's seat (japan car)
Neither Hitmoi or Leeland saw the culprit's face.

One day later at 10 in the morning the phone call that tells Hitomi to bring the 50million yen to Hachiko statue comes in

Then we cut back to Shibuya
Kano starts talking about how it's weird that the culprit would choose such a crowded area.
Sasayama says maybe the culprit wanted to run off with the money and blend in with the crowd.
Kano says the crowd of people isn't an advantage just for the culprit since there are so many detectives spread within the crowd as well.
Sasayama says not to worry about insignificant things like that

Kano takes out a notebook that has lots of detective proverbs
This one is 89 "If something seems insignificant that means it has to be significant"
It's apparently written by a detective of the Shibuya police force called Tateno Kyouzou, Tateno is Hitomi's bodyguard for this mission apparently.

Tateno is Kano's inspiration, because one time a bad guy spread gasoline all over a finance office and threatened to light a fire. No one knew what to do. Tateno doused himself with gasoline, went inside and a coaxed the bad guy out.
Kano was just a patrol officer back then.

That's pretty much it for this part, folks.
Watch the video if you want more details.

While waiting at Hachiko statue for the culprit, this guy shows up and gets close to Hitomi.

Kano thinks he's the culprit.

Because he went up to Hitomi and grabs the briefcase

All the cops jump him.

Then the radio says a foreigner came and took the ransom money, then they chase after him

Kano was left behind because he's too slow, Kano thinks it's a good idea to take him in for interrogation

The guy's name is Achi, he claims he went to reach for the suitcase because he thought it looked heavy for the girl

Achi says he doesn't know anything to all the questions.

It's been 10 hours since the interrogation started.
Achi gets sleepy.
Kano find a detective proverb that says to ask a question right when they're falling asleep.

Achi asks him if he was working together with the culprit

Kano takes this as a yes.

Kano calls his boss and says, he's got him.
His boss is disappointed.
Kano resigns.

Bad End#1: So long Shibuya Police Station.

The game tells you to play Achi's story and to make Achi chose a different outcome that won't lead to Kano's dumbassery.

I would make a joke about how he looks like some teen flick actor.

His story starts with him putting his clothes on...

He takes some trash bags and goes outside

And starts picking up trash on his way somewhere...

Then he hears a girl in distress.

They're "hosts" cabaret club dudes who pick up chicks so they can work to please men or something like that.
Then Achi tries being nice asking them to stop

One of the guys gets pissed, tells Achi to bow down as he spits his gum out.

This causes Achi to get pissed.
One of the guys notices his shirt

This graphic that looks like it came out of splatoon is called eco-kichi
This makes the guys realize that it's Achi, they then apologize and run away.

He tells the girl that he hopes this doesn't make her hate Sibuya because of that.
Then he leaves.

That's it for now.

Yeah I like the shirt design.

Here's the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukA1QyMH6RY
In this episode of 428, we start with Achi wishing he was a white blood cell.
Because Shibuya is like the heart of Tokyo or something and people are red blood cells.

He sees Hitomi, and thinks he wants to tap that.

Then it gives you the choice
A) go carry the case for her
B) First throw away the garbage

If you pick B, a foreign man shows up in front of Hitomi.

He says something to her, she nods, and then he takes the briefcase.

Then Kano and Sasayama run over Achi as they chase after the foreigner.

I will exlain the red text that's up here later

Everyone is gone chasing the foreigner and then Achi looks over to Hitomi
A) Ask her what's happening
B) It's probobly just a film shoot.

I picked A

Then a man with a cane starts walking toward Hitomi.

He reaches into his chest

Pulls out a gun

Kano comes back, hurrying toward Hitmoi

The man with the cane notices Kano and goes away

Achi gets all confused, then he decides to do this

They get into an argument

After their argument is over, Kano notices Hitomi is gone then he gets all depressed

Achi decides to go home

Choice B is a bad end aswell, just a lot less interesting.

The red text in this picture:

means that you need to jump to a story where you see this screen

This screen showed up on Kano's story after we made Achi do a different action.

Now we don't get a bad end in Kano's story anymore after we press jump.

We "jump" to Kano's story and we get to the part where the guy steals the briefcase

The foreigner runs through both Kano and Sasayama

He goes through a red light into traffic

Then, Kano gets a call in his earpiece telling him not to chase the foreigner.

That the arrest squad will take care of him, and that the real culprit is somewhere else.

After Kano does some thinking, you get a choice.
A)There's too much of a risk letting him get away
B)Leave the chase to another investigator, and do something else

I chose A because I don't like following orders.

While Chasing the foreinger Kano hears in his earpiece that Hitmoi was taken away.

The foreigner runs into an ally

Kano loses track of him at a crossroads.

While chasing after the foreigner, Kano seen a completely different foreigner

He aims his gun at Kano

And another bad end...

I'm not very good at this...

To what extent is this a remake/sequel/successor to Machi? I only know that game from the LP here (which I don't think was completed), but it does have the same gameplay, style, setting, and even seems to have some similar plot elements. Also the same designer, presumably.

Sorry for the delay, work sucks.

So I went through multiple bad ends in the video portion.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYC8hJebPg8
I won't go into details about the bad ends here, they aren't exciting.

But going through so many bad ends made me figure something out about the game's system.
You need to have certain bad ends "activated in order to advance the story.

For example;
having this bad end in Achi's story activated lets you advance in Kano's route.

In Kano's route, when you choose to chase the culprit while you're in this scene.

You'll see this afterwards

It's Hitomi and Achi

Kano reports it, and is told to chase them.

Achi doesn't stop running. For some reason.
Almost like he's getting away from something.

After a while he finally stops.

They start talking.
Kano asks him to let Hitomi go.
Hitomi shakes her head.

Kano all of a sudden feels a sharp pain on his head

He sees a book fly up in the air
It says: 六法全書 compendium of six law codes

Then the screen goes black.
BAD END
The hint at the end tells us to play as Achi now, to see what made Achi take Hitmoi.

We do so.

And instead of Kano showing up and getting his poo poo kicked in.
The cane man points his gun at Hitomi.

Achi tackles him

Then takes Hitomi with him

Garbage tag!

They go through an alley

Before that Hitomi gets scared, and is uneasy, but Achi implores her to reconsider.

They block the old man that was chasing him with bottle crates.

This is where I stopped.
See you next time at log lady.

There's no direct relation, but there are some similarities, is what was written in the jp wiki article
Both games use multiple protagonists, apparently.

Here's the update on the story!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvdyJrNAm6U
They go into the bar lounge we saw.
Achi thinks it's better to lay low, instead of running around.
Achi turns on the lights and sits her down.

They have a little bit of forced romance

Achi asks her about what's going on

As she starts explaining,

Our hero shows his stupidity and yells that he doesn't understand...

Achi asks how much the ransom money was was
She says it was fifty million yen, It's roughly half a million in usd, I believe.

Then Achi asks, if the foreign man ran away with the money, then why did the man with
the cane want with you?
Hitomi says she doesn't know. She doesn't say anything other than that.
Achi says we should talk to the police.

Hitomi says immediately that it's no good. She can't talk to the police.

She then stands up and tries to leave

Achi tries to stop her.
She says she doesn't want to cause any more trouble for him, and that she will do
something about it herself.

When she opens the door,

This guy is standing there.
He's the guy with the cane apparently.

Then we get a to be continued

We go back to Kano, because there's nothing else to do, and there's something different
about his timeline
While he's chasing foreigner.

He goes up a pedestrian bridge this time.

Then stops all of a sudden.

And gives a big ol' grin

(drat that's a big nose)

He lifts the case over the railing

And throws it down to some motorcyclist who was waiting there.

And of course Kano is too late, because instead of jumping down he went
down the stairs. What a pansy.
The biker is apparently going in the direction of Yoyogi(I love that name)

Kano reports what he saw into his intercom

To be continued

Then, a trailer for the next hour plays
https://my.mixtape.moe/zikpci.webm

Then we get our new characters...

Who should I play as next?

So I went with Tama because I want to know what the hell it is.

It starts out with a shot of shibuya

And it zooms in to the mascot

She keeps complaining about how hot it is.
She wants to quit but really needs the money no matter what.

She's handing out samples of a diet supplement.

But everyone ignores her.

She tries her best to get everyone's attention but no one seems to care.

Tama closes her eyes, and decides that she will hand the sample to the next person she sees.
When she open them she sees these two walking in front of her.

You get a choice on who to hand it to,
The choice asks which one of them would most likely take it?
I chose left.

But he dodges.

Tama gets depressed and looks over to see how the other part timer is doing

They're doing better then her.
Tama wonders what she's doing wrong.

Tama looks at the time, notices that it's past 11 meaning the distribution of samples is almost over

Then the other one goes over to Tama and asks her why she has so many samples left over

The chiken helps Tama with the samples
Then they head to some selling event that's going to be held at 1:00
Tama narrates that if she manages to sell 100 of them she'll get 20,000 yen $200 approximately, which is double what she's getting paid for this.
Tama says she needs $200 no matter what as fast as possible, that's why she's doing all this.
She doesn't explain her circumstances fully.

They arrive at the assembly hall

Tama helps the chiken take off her costume

The person inside the chiken was a girl called Oosuri Chiriko

Tama asks Chiriko to take off her costume now,
but Chiriko says the zipper's busted

Tama smash!

Tama can't even take off her head to eat lunch.
She felt a sharp pain when trying to take it off, and the head is attatched to the suit.
They can't cut it off without the boss's permission.
There's a choice here,
A; take of the headpiece as hard as you can with both hands
B; shake the head piece pff
C; Ask Chiriko to take it off

I tried C, but Chiriko didn't do anything.

Chiriko gives Tama a sports bottle with a straw so she can drink

Chiriko talks about how the diet supplement they're selling is bogus, and how she's using the sports bottle for her protein shakes

Then they hear somone say, "Please wait! I will definitly return it !" outside the door.
It sounds like their boss, Yanagishita Junichi

They take a peep outside, and see him begging the loan sharks to wait a bit more

Tama and Chiriko choose not to confront them.

Yanagishita gets taken away

Chiriko decides to go home because, the boss is gone
Tama at a loss just stays there.

Bad end...
The hint says that someone's actions at 11:15 could save Yanagishita from getting taken away if the loansharks don't find out about where the sale is taking place.

I go back to this choice

Tama hands it to Sasayama, he asks what it is.

Tama says it's a diet supplement called burning hammer
Sasayama says he doesn't need it

Tama stays still.
Sasayama gets creeped out from the unmoving mascot and shoves it into his pocket, then leaves.

I don't think any other choice does anything.

I think I'll continue Achi's path tomorrow, I want to know what happens.

We go back to Achi's timeline, where they're getting held at gunpoint by this guy

Hitomi asks why he's after her, but the guy doesn't answer.

Then Achi gets in the way and asks what he wants, he tells the guy that they have no money.

The guy doesn't answer, only sighs

Achi starts egging him on to shoot in order to make an opening, then the cane man's phone starts ringing
That's when you get a choice

A. Try to steal the gunpoint
B. Pick up beer bottle and hit him
C. Take Hitomi and run

I go with B.

The cane man dodges but loses his balance

They make a run for it.

As Achi goes through various alleys, Hitomi tells him to wait

Hitomi says she needs to go to Dougenzaka because the foreigner told her to before grabbing the briefcase.

He said go to Dougenzaka and get on "the blue wagon", whatever the hell that means, and to not contact family or police. He says to Hitomi if she does these two things then her big sister will be released.

Achi decides to take her there, by taking detours in low traffic areas.

As they're about to go, these two guys ask them where the Nokane Building is

You can choose to tell them or to give them the wrong direction.
I go with wrong direction because of Tama's story.

They say thanks and leave

They start walking through residential pathways that people don't usually take

We also get some facts about Shibuya river

Hitomi asks why Achi knows Shibuya so well, Achi explains how he grew up here and how it pisses him off when people let the place get dirty, he tells her about how he picks up trash all day everyday.

Hitomi starts staring at him and calls him "different" or maybe weird, I think that's how 変わってます works.

All of a sudden they start hearing angry voices.

Some guy says "You guys call yourselves KOK?"
Hovering over KOK says that it's a gang that Achi was part of, but now some guy named Susumu is the leader
I'm not really sure what they're fighting about here because they talk in punk-speak and I don't really know how to study that kind of way of speaking, I think it's something about

At one point they mention Achi's name, which makes Achi cut into the conversation
Achi tells Susumu to not beat up his underlings in the walkway because it'll scare the good citizens living there

The leader of KOK and Achi don't get along well

They decide to leave.

Hitomi asks if Achi know them.
Achi says Susumu was an old friend. Apparently he doesn't want to talk about it.

That's about it for this episode.

I hope it gets more exciting.
