They made Mickey Mania which is a really good licensed game. Now they pretty much only make Lego games which are pretty samey but still fun

http://media.earthboundcentral.com/2011/05/earthbounds-copy-protection/index.html earthbound's copywrite protection, if you could make it past the "is this a real cartridge+SNES" layers, was to greatly multiply enemy spawns and make the game basically impossible. they would also put enemies in the wrong place, such as swamp enemies in the desert etc. and to top it all off, if the pirate somehow made it through the game like this, the game would crash hard on the final boss fight and wipe all saves

Is there one about the RE2 N64 cart? I remember reading a longform article about how they were able to get like an 8GB game down to 256mb through super clever video compression.

RE2 N64 uses higher-poly models and runs at a variable resolution that's usually pretty high but the textures have lower detail, the backgrounds are interlaced, the audio's compressed, etc plus the FMVs are practically GIFs. it's a good port but it's still a CD game being forced onto a cart so they had to make compromises

julian assflange posted:Looks a bit Lucasarts-y. Is it? no, other than being point-and-click and having some points where it's frustratingly unclear what you need to do to progress. it's very good, if you can get over how dated it looks. unfortunately the original game code has been lost so an HD re-release is never going to happen.

there was a splatterhouse game for the famicom (that never got ported to the US) that was super-deformed style with a bunch of horror movie in-jokes. the bosses are especially cool, like the first one is a vampire leading a bunch of zombies in the thriller dance while a knock-off of the song plays in the background https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSRpN5CiM_E
