3 tunes down 18 to go.

Have been at this for over a year now and the below have had many versions, some of which have been posted before.

Essentially doing everything myself with some help from a vocalist, drummer and a seasoned pro who has been a god send.

Been scammed on fivver (more than once), had every insult on submithub, but I am going to keep on trucking.

Oh shi...

BandCamp Friday is coming up, and to celebrate, I'm releasing the first single from my next album. The song is called "Photograph", and I legitimately feel like it's the best thing that I have ever recorded. Hope you enjoy it.

For the Christmas Music thread i made a bunch of Christmas parody songs and it was lots of fun. I made a goal to do one new parody song a month.

I finished January, its a parody of Sam Smiths "Unholy" call "Enclosure" about a dad who cant keep jumping into cages at the zoo.

hi music people. i'm astrochicken and i've been working on a collection of four songs in order to cope with becoming recently jobless, insuranceless and coping with the spectre of mental illness that appears to color everything in my life. I'm deciding to keep it relatively simple with an acoustic guitar and vocals and have been resisting the urge to overproduce. some major influences include some of thurston moore's more subdued solo work and some of the older of the newer wave of shoegaze such as nothing and ovlov. i'm actually super excited about sharing it with the people in my life that care and figured why not post about it here when i'm done. i've been in more of a rut than usual lately and maybe this will give me some more incentive to finish it. thanks yall.

No shame there. Big feelings usually become big art if you let it. My last album was almost entirely about coming to grips with manic depression.

[sobbing] Look at the circles under my eyes. I haven't slept in weeks!

Just finished my wife's first album! Just need album art.

Been kicking around the same rap album with a buddy for about 5 years now. Changing up the drum patterns on a post-hyphy grunge ballad piece that's meant to be the emotional climax of the album, rewriting the last bit of lyrics on the opening track which channels a bit of early 2000s east coast energy, then just gotta do album art!

Also at some point I'll put out a couple of these beat tapes I've been sitting on. Got hundreds of beats and three collections that are thematically linked. If any of yall rap good and want some beats lmk and I'll hit you with my archive.

Loved the song, thought the lyrics were great. Microphone was not so good though. The audio quality was bad.

Thanks! There are three of us. Right now we're all kinda pitching in wherever inspiration strikes, we don't have specific roles yet. We've got another two ideas on deck we're fleshing out, hopefully we'll have enough for an EP release in a couple months.

I know this is an in the works oriented thread, but I finally finished and posted my album. Took way too long and have that post-album being hard on it mindset going, but I will say I learned more making this than anything I've ever done. Indie rock folk prog psychedelic, definitely a downer record.

This might be my favorite from the CD. That's the fifth, or fiftieth guitar solo (3:15) I recorded and the engineer refused to let me do it over again. Wisely.

Dude, this is killer. You have an amazing funk rock thing going on in this album. I think the only thing that puts me off a little bit is how hilariously arrogant-bordering-on-creepy the vocals are. But it's great; I'm sorry this never went anywhere for you.

Do you know any other bands with this kind of sound? I'd love to hear some because I really don't know any. The closest thing I can think of is an old 90s band called Supergroove:

Nice. I have absolutely zero idea how to promote my music anymore. There are so many different options, I have zero clue what has the most bang for the buck. It’s gotten to the point where I am not sure how much more I’ll be doing this because… what’s the point if you’re the only one who listens?

🎧Listen to Cylindricule!🎵
https://linktr.ee/Cylindricule

Working on my solo debut:

A synthesis of acoustic folk and electro-synth beats, [album] weaves narratives of place through time: the ephemeral lives of the dead and their disappeared dreams are juxtaposed with our own ephemeral present-day lives, against a backdrop of an historic rural New York State and a century of urban development. Common threads among the tracks are trees and forests; creeks and rivers; soil and clay; stone, bricks, and bones; and the grave.

I want to use acoustic instruments [guitar, piano] wherever I can, overlaid on synth beats, interspersed with mood-setting samples.

The piano and vocals of the anchor song I've worked on:

An earlier guitar and vocal version:

I have a lot to work on. There's four other songs to record and mix on top of this one. Mind if I keep the thread updated on my progress?

HALT HALT HALT HALT HALT

We finally got our second track finished and out on youtube!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXO5_HdIbRw

It felt like everything just lined up for our first track and from start to finish it was so much easier. This one took a lot of effort, and I don't think any of us are 100% happy with it, but at some point we had to be like, it's good enough, and call it done. On the plus side, while we were struggling with this track we've got a bunch more ideas and jams to build on, so hopefully 3+ will go a bit faster? We're tempering our hopes about our speed and process down to just getting a 4 track EP out by the end of the year. A lot of that initial optimism when just starting out got smacked down by the reality of making songs we actually like and think are worth sharing.

Raising this from the dead because I have an EP coming out 8/25: https://faustbot.bandcamp.com/track/sneak-a-peek

It's the most synthpop release I've had due to the covid theme: I couldn't play guitar or bass when covid knocked me off my rear end for two solid weeks, but I could still program synths and drums. I wrote the opener track and a bunch of the lyrics for the EP while overwhelmingly sick.

The teaser track shared there, Sneak a Peek, was influenced by memories of putting Talking Heads' Speaking In Tongues in the mp3 folder while playing Vice City. The lyrics were written around the opening line, which popped into my head when listening to the music and stuck.

My production and general sound quality get better with every release, and I'm really proud if this one. I'm not producing at a radio ready level, but I'm fine with that so long as it sounds good.

That’s one thing I have taken solace in. Every song, every project doesn’t just get better, but the quality of my production goes up too. These are things that I only learned by DOING THE WORK. It’s a good feeling.

Congrats on the upcoming release. Just making it to the finish line is an accomplishment.

This is sick. Extremely Devo! I see on your Bandcamp you're in Philly. Do you ever play shows in Brooklyn?

I put out a new solo album as Monster Furniture a couple of months ago. It's lots of delicate acoustic fingerpicking, woodwinds, and harmonies. It's very inspired by Owen Pallett, Sufjan Stevens, and Alex G. I spent too long working on it and was completely sick of it by the time I finished, but with a little bit of distance from it I'm proud of where it landed:

https://monsterfurniture.bandcamp.com/album/giant-egg

Now I can't wait to swing hard in the other direction and make something minimal and monotonous and post-punky for the next one!

It's pretty cool and laid back melodic rock, with some drumming that reminds me of primal scream. Nicely done.

Very very rarely post on SA but hey, whatever. I'm working on an album using only samples from crappy low-end toy keyboards, this track's a cover of a New Order song. Everything on it was directly sampled from a Casio SA-38, a Casio Rapman, and a Yamaha VSS-200. Arranged on a Dirtywave M8.
