September 20th, 2017, Harrisburg PA. A man walks into a hospital, seemingly uninjured, and dies in the waiting room. After being examined, doctors are left puzzled by his lack of wounds and any obvious cause of death. The case is written off as a John Doe and his case filed away. September 21st, 2017 Two thousand people seemingly drop-down dead across the city under similar circumstances. The Mayor of Harrisburg petitions the Governor to declare a state of emergency as stories about mysterious viruses and terrorism fill the news. Bodies are taken to the FNB field, a former baseball field, now a makeshift mortuary. Airports are shut down and strict FEMA checkpoints are set up outside the city. As the National Guard arrive in Harrisburg, they are sent to investigate a loss of contact with a medical team at FNB field. Upon arriving, the small national guard unit is confronted with not two thousand bodies but two thousand walking corpses, now ready to devour their flesh. The unit, sent primarily as a show of force to corral a panicking city, is overwhelmed and consumed. Facebook and Twitter suddenly explode with photos and stories about zombies. Most of this is fake and conjecture but spurred on by pop culture and doomsday preppers, the government is forced to respond. Speaking to the press, Sarah Huckabee Sanders explains that America will sleep safely because of a special idea that Trump and his generals have come up with in response to the outbreak – a ring of steel. Armoured cars, tanks and as much military weaponry as physical possible been utilised to establish a border on the outskirts of Harrisburg. Troops maintain an impenetrable barrier around the outskirts, seas and skies of the city. Bridges have been bombed and the seas mined to stop people leaving with the virus. Anybody approaching the military border – infected or otherwise, young or old, is shot. Adamant that a quarantine will keep zombies and infections inside the city, Trump promises that the sacrifice of Harrisburg will be fondly commemorated. But this ring of steel isn’t just physical, somehow WIFI and cellular signals are blocked too, cutting off the people of Harrisburg from the rest of the world. No planes fly over the city and seemingly, no help is on the way. Unknowingly, the people of Harrisburg are on their own. Inside the city, chaos quickly erupts. Panicking citizens either lock themselves away in their homes or are quickly devoured by the undead. The TVs and radio just broadcast the same emergency broadcast message “Remain in your homes”. The police, firefighters and hospitals try their hardest to maintain order but when confronted by both a panicking populace and the dead, things go from bad to worse. Today: Our story begins 1 week after the ring of steel was erected, Harrisburg has become a city where the streets are filled with the undead and descending into anarchy. Outside gunfire and explosions have replaced the car horns and hubbub of the city. The dead walk in the street, searching and hunting for prey. This is where your story begins. Will you escape the city? Did the virus escape the city? Why was no help sent? Will you find out the cause of the pandemic? Will you survive? quote:About our skills: Choose Your Player: quote:

How will I play this: Every day at 6:45-7:15 pm GMT (that’s 13:45 EDT or 10:45 PDT) and add a new chapter based on the most popular or interesting ideas. You can suggest any choices or ideas and I’ll try my best to write a narrative about them. I’ve got a small notebook filled with encounter ideas that I have based on the actual map of Harrisburg. so hopefully, somebody should enjoy this. I’ll be using dice and some D&D esq combat systems that I’ll explain as we go. Ok, that’s my massive starting blurb done, Players – choose our starting characters and we’re kick off later today 😊 Vote: A. Archie Andrews B. Juliet Bravo C. AnAnonymousIdiot posted:Bring Officer Bravo on the beat. Episode 0: The Thin Blue Line The plan had been simple. Aren’t all plans simple when you read them on paper? Chief Hollister had recalled all members of the Harrisburg PD: trainees, SWAT, even k9 cops to the Harrisburg Police Bureau. Using this as a rallying point, Hollister was sure that the force could secure city hall and the nearby county prison as “Mini fortresses” to begin the fightback against the growing number of undead and looters. The plan had been partially successful. Those policemen and women who made it to the HCB were armed and readied to fight to City Hall. You remember thinking how proud your father would have been if he had seen you – Juliet Bravo, hero of the city. Then…..it all goes black. That was 2 days ago. There is a gunshot in the distance. You open your eyes. A strong stinging sensation aches from the side of your head. You recognise the room you are in, despite the lack of lighting or windows. This is the women’s locker room of the HCB. You’ve been here before. You’ve changed in here before. Your locker is not far away. You check your inventory. You have keys to your locker and to the armoury. Before you can you open your locker, your eyes are drawn to the red smear leading into the shower area. There may be danger close by. Another gunshot rings out in the hallway. You try to call out but your voice is hoarse and your throat is dry. You feel. You feel the side of your skull and your hand comes back a similar murky red colour to the floor. You’re injured. Your fingers brush against a head wound and a ripple of pain shoots through you. You think back…..nothing. Your memory is patchy and everything seems black. How did you get here? What happened to the team? Where is Chief Hollister? Why is the door locked? What happens next? You decide.

1) Make sure gun is loaded. 2) Check immediate area for threats. 3) Find and open your locker.

CourValant posted:1) Make sure gun is loaded. You take stock of your weapon: an important lesson from your father. You flick out the cylinder and count 4 bullets. The faint smell of gunpowder suggests that you have used this weapon recently. The gun is not the standard police issue pistol but rather a family heirloom. Holding it make you feel safer. Checking the ammo box, you find 11 bullets bringing you to a total of 15 bullets. Sadly, not enough to end the apocalypse but it’s a start. In the distance, beyond the blocked door, you hear a scream…it seems oddly familiar. CourValant posted:2) Check immediate area for threats. You look around, although the room is dimly lit by the backup generators light, you can't see any immediate threat in this room. That blood trail leads beyond into a room you can't see but you imagine if zombies were nearby you would hear shuffling and/or moaning by now. CourValant posted:3) Find and open your locker. You unlock your locker, there is an audible groan as the door swings open. Inside you find your lockpick case, your retractable baton and house keys. All 3 seem very useful right now so you take them. Your eyes flick briefly to your father’s letter when your head begins to ring again. Your hurt. You need to find some help and quick. Your inventory has been updated: Added: Lockpick case, house keys and retractable baton What do you do next?

You search the locker room for the standard issue kit, sadly it appears to the missing. Sad because you could really use a generic-brand asprin right now. You do find a large mirror n the off-camera wall and inspect your head injury It stings and touching it causes an immense amount of pain. There appears to be bits of wood in the wound, small like splinters. Your detective sense makes you deduce that you have probably been struck with some kind of blunt instrument made of wood. If you had a first aid kit, this would be so easy to deal with but so far no luck. You suddenly hear a groan from the showers. Lacking any escape route, you edge into the room. What should I do now?

Shoot first, ask questions It's a zombie apocalypse. Assume that everyone we see is a zombie, unless they are able to dodge our bullets and yell "WTF?!", in which case they are agile and sapient enough to be given the benefit of the doubt. CourValant posted:Do we know enough about the Zombie Apocalypse to understand some standard zombie lore? I.e., bites cause inflections, aim for the head, that sort of thing? You think back to your training – a hastily organised meeting that Hollister put together at the outbreak of the crisis. “Listen up people, this is what we know…. these monsters are not your friends, your family or your lovers. They are dead and they want to make you the same. Shoot them in the head and they stay down. You don’t need me to tell you this poo poo, you’ve seen movies right? If they are trying to eat you – they’re zombies, if they are grey, clammy and covered in blood – zombie! If they’re begging for their life – that’s probably human but don’t let your guard down.” At this point, Wesstleberg pipped up and whined about if this is “Walking dead” zombies or “28 Days” zombies – Hollister put him on guard duty and told him to work it out for himself. You think it was Romero zombies – slow bitey people but there’s enough of them to take out the city. CourValant posted:Call out, "Officer, can you hear me?" "Officer, can you hear me?" you ask cautiously. The figure groans. The words seem muffled but somewhat coherent. But you can't be sure. JosephWongKS posted:Shoot first, ask questions You think hard if Hollister had any advice about this situation: “If in doubt, blow their brains out and let their gods sort them out” Oh yeah. Well, if he wasn’t dead, he probably is now. Your ammo has decreased by 1 What do I do? Manwithastick fucked around with this message at 03:43 on Oct 4, 2017 |
