Type-R

Get your dicks hard,

Cause it's time for a tear-down. :a2m:

Backstory: I had a bad weekend. The schwagon shut down on Friday driving home after working late. Left me stranded on the highway for a couple hours. Pulled the Type-R from storage on Saturday. During the shakedown drive the crankshaft main pulley bolt sheared off inside the crankshaft. The main pulley walked and threw all the accessory belts. Then the crankshaft timing gear walked and shredded the timing belt. It shut down just a mile from the house - leaving me and my son stranded on the side of the highway for a couple hours.

If you're not saving the Type-R, you're not saving a tight car.

Excited for this.

Do you still need to weld the garage door shut and set up booby traps to protect this thing or is that era over?

In either case I am excited too.

Rebuilding the B18 is the only option. This is a one owner Type-R.

Edit: to be clear, I was joking. I agree, it needs the B18 back.

So are you going to do aftermarket internals or go all red-bag parts?

Saoirse is named after Song of the Sea, my daughter named her.

I'm wanting to H22 the schwagon. So a tentitive plan here is to pick up a Euro-R H22A and T2W4 transmission and H-swap the ITR. Then fix the ITR motor slowly over time, then swap the ITR back to the original motor, then swap the schwagon. This is a lot of labor, and I haven't found a DC2 swap for H22 that doesn't require some cutting. Cutting the ITR is unacceptable.

Right now a lot of what is going to happen hinges on the crankshaft bolt. If I can't walk what's left of that fucker back out myself, I'm gonna pull the engine.

I'll set the building on fire
New Civic type r engine?

Anyway, i think aftermarket valves from like ferrea or supertech are less than what those oem parts cost. I see the appeal to using all oem parts on that car though. If you do want to go with some aftermarket stuff let me know because I'm a dealer for a lot of things.

And with the head of the crank bolt broken off i would expect it to come out fairly easily. I have to deal with the occasional stripped cam gear bolt on Subarus, and once you release the tension by cutting or drilling the threads the shank comes right out by hand.

I Want To Believe.
I'd keep the engine looking totally standard outside, but there's no reason not to choose good "future proof" upgrades internally.
