Problem description: The main issue is that when I use the driver from Dell's (the maker of my laptop) website, the games I'll usually play work perfectly (Stardew Valley, Fallout New Vegas, etc.); however, I recently bought Civ 6 and got the error message something along the lines of, "No compatible graphics device found." Attempted fixes: I installed the most recent driver from nvidia for my graphics card (nvidia 540m), but now my games will work for a 1-10 minutes and then crash. However, Civ 6 actually starts up now. Recent changes: Have you made any changes to your system/configuration recently that might have caused the problem? None to my knowledge. -- Operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate - 64bit System specs: I have a Dell XPS 15, model number P11F Processor: Intel i7 2670QM 8 gigs of RAM Location: USA I have Googled and read the FAQ: Yes

I'd run DDU to uninstall all video drivers: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=976 And then install the latest GPU drivers again.

All the games are still crashing within the first five minutes of me starting them up. Could it have something to do with the fact that my laptop has the Intel HD Graphics 3000 with the NVIDIA GT 540M? I have a feeling that's why the driver from Dell's website allows the games to run without issues (aside from Civ 6 telling me I don't have a directx 11 compatible card or whatever), while the one straight from NVIDIA doesn't work properly. IDK but do you have the L502X? If so, I'd make sure you were on the latest BIOS: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/xps-l502x/drivers

If I was in this situation I'd probably do the upgrade to W10 although I'm not sure if it'll fix your issue.

For your Optimus solution to work, you must use the Dell Drivers. As for the reason for the crash, it's hard to say. Honestly the GPU might just be damaged as that is quite an old box.
