I really enjoy the campaigns but they really start to feel too long after awhile.

Yeah, I highly recommend building as many fleets as you can mid game when money is no longer a issue so you can auto resolve most of the non-story battles.

Asehujiko posted:How far into the Imperial campaign am I if just got attacked by 10 or so tyranid invasions at the same time? I can't say I'm a big fan of this having to fight a dozen identical enemies in a row if that'll be a recurring "feature". Also with the latest patch you can start a new custom game from the menu and make the invasions more expensive. Currently an invasion costs 20 Action points, so you can increase that amount to reduce the invasion frequency. You can also turn invasions off in the custom game, but if you do that some of optional missions may never appear that require battling an invasion fleet. If you don't want to restart your game then a few alternate techniques you can try against invasions: * Work on capturing worlds that generate battleplans, to use those to reduce invasion frequency. In the new patch you can cancel an invasion with 5 battleplans. * Also you don't have to hold every planet or sector to win the game. So if you are getting over-invaded you can fortify the most valuable worlds in the sector and try to keep the AI factions contained to weaker worlds. Though not holding an entire sector gives up a sector bonus, some of those bonuses aren't needed to win; * Also there are elimination missions available to wipe out the AI faction altogether. Just note some of the elimination missions can be very difficult, so you may need to level up some captains and ships before trying. * As stated, use throw-away fleets to autoresolve battles to make invasions less grindy. Works better in the middle game if you have a ton of income rolling in. I made my invasions in my game cost 24 AI points instead of 20, which reduces the overall invasion frequency by a varying amount. Also to warn you, with the latest patch there is a new AI Ultimate Power they can spend points on. The Ultimate Power costs 40 points and can be pretty damaging. I turned off the AI Ultimate Power in my custom game. The AI collects points as independent totals in each revealed sector that the AI has at last 1 threat level. The level of the Urgency Gauge will add extra points per turn, per sector, depending on the urgency gauge level. EDIT: spaced out the bullet points for more pleasurable consumption. nnnotime fucked around with this message at 04:11 on Jul 11, 2019 |

If you mouse over the sector overview on the top left (the one showing how many world you've captured in the sector it'll show you a bonus can get from holding all the world in a sector.

Also, another useful tip regarding Technology Research: Once you have evolved a world so a special Level 3 Technology is available from a Research Station (i.e., green-colored abilities on some planets), and after you have used an Upgrade Point to gain that technology, then you will keep that technology for good, even if you lose control of the world with a Research Lab on it. So if you decide not to hold onto a sector then check first if you need the technology available from the Research Station, if the Sector has one. After you have fully evolved the world with the Research Station and bought that technology then you can safely abandon the world or sector, if it's no longer needed to help you win the campaign.

I just got this game this afternoon and don't know what the hell I'm doing. When I 1v1 my buddy he likes to sit in the corner and nova spam me to death. When I play tyranids I try to sneak my way into his fleet, ram him and board his ships but still get wrecked because he manages to find my fleet with escorts. I'm even rush/adrenal glands/rushing to get out of lots of them but by the time I close the gap I'm on fire and in shambles. He also kills my tau and my necrons the same way, just a million nova cannons. what's good against this? fast Eldar I suppose?

I've never played multiplayer, but it sounds like the obvious solution is to just not play with your lame buddy. Aside from that, if he's corner camping, I'd probably use a bunch of torpedo ships to spam his corner with long range shots. Or, if you want to engage him at closer range, he's got a limited number of shots with his nova cannons. Bait him with fast ships, see if you can chew up his escorts while staying at the edge of his nova cannon range and using rapid turns and acceleration to dodge his nova shots. Any ship with that as a primary weapon will be pretty weak once it can't fire any more. Space Marines would probably be best for that sort of play.

Corsairs can use Pulsars to alpha strike targets while popping out of stealth. Dark Eldar are a little slower but their ships are effectively perma stealthed and have a lot of 'homing' projectiles that will constantly be pelting the enemy but requires a lot of micromanagent.

Could also save Necron inertialess drive for the nova shots and then ram him to death. Not sure how good the Doom Scythe is these days.

Play against nova cannon spam sucks, it's not a strong strategy but is annoying as hell. It also doesn't help that you're new and therefore you don't have fleet upgrades unlocked, so the deck is even more stacked against you. Watching videos in youtube and asking in the BfG2 discord might be helpful.
