Chrome and Firefox are bloated on Mac and it's exacerbated by streaming sites like Twitch & Netflix. You should try switching to Safari. I did that recently and never went back. Happy Macking.

In my experience, Netflix is like basically the only streaming service that works really well on every platform. Almost every other service is either crap on some platforms/devices, or all of them, such as Hulu. Stuff like dropped frames and skips, I never see those on Netflix.
