Matrix 4 is coming. Will it maintain the quality decline over the series so far or will it loving rule?

Whatever the outcome, I win...

Because I'm an aging millennial & popular culture has begun playing to my wistful longing for an illusory past, thereby making even the worst poo poo the industry can excrete seem good thanks to nostalgia, so long as it reminds me of the late 90s-mid 00s.

E: late 80s thru 90s works too

E: also the 50s thrus the 70s too because there was tons of airtime to fill & tv stations played a lot of reruns.

Well seeing as how one of the original directors is returning, and I believe Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will be returning, may be worth it just for that. Keanu Reeves is also currently working on John Wick 4. It will probably be a poo poo sequel. I liked how all three movies played out, but I feel like I have seen a surge in continuation films for older movie series.

When they started hitting their 30s in the 80s Boomers went into overdrive churning out nostalgic movies about their youth, so now the younger GenX/older Millennials are doing it too. Except we mainly stayed in and passively consumed. This is basically our Sandlot.

Ironically The Sandlot is also our Sandlot, because we watched all those movies too.

Sandlot was one of the best films I have seen since my childhood in relation to being the new kid on the block and trying to fit in. You do have a point though: every generation appears to try to do a remake or reboot of a movie or TV series. What I find very interesting is they either take out way too much from the original movie, or the remake will be great and have super amazing effects. I am thinking of a movie like "The Day the World Stood Still" when we discuss the nostalgic movies. I actually watched the original prior to the remake, and I was very surprised in how well the original got me hooked.

As much as I dislike the remake, casting Keanu as the alien was inspired

I remember watching Matrix Reloaded in the theater in high school when it came out, and like almost everyone from my class came out to see it and everyone was so hype for it, and afterwards everyone was super bummed because it wasn't good.

The Animatrix was loving sick, though. I can't believe how dark they made some of the stories. Like when that diplomat robot came to talk with our leaders in congress and just blew up as a nuclear bomb. poo poo, makes me want to watch it again. Does anyone want to have a watch party?

The Second Renaissance is pure robot uprising human extermination porn and I love it.

edit:

I love how in the original Matrix Morpheus is like "we don't know who started the war." :iiam: but then in 2R it's just explicitly lovely capitalist humans rejecting fully automated luxury space communism. :ms:

edit2:

machines did nothing wrong

Animatrix had the kid that manages to free himself from the matrix but then is relegated to being a Mcguffin in the movies instead of doing something meaningful like teaching others how to free themselves

The kid didn't free himself, you're thinking of the runner. The kid just took the leap of faith and was rescued by Neo offscreen.

But yeah, the kid felt very shoehorned into the story to give audience someone to relate to in Zion while all the cool people are away.

I just rewatched The Matrix for the first time in 15 years or so. It loving rules.

One of the things I like about The Matrix is that while it's Neo's story, it takes place in the middle of a plot that revolves around Morpheus. Everything in the first half of the film, even the opening sequence, is about the Agent's attempts to capture Morpheus. Rather than just following a story about a Chosen One being sleepwalked to their destiny, it makes Neo's journey feel emergent in the world of The Matrix.

I just rewatched the Animatrix a few days ago. When the kid is waking up in the real world, Neo and Trinity are standing over him saying “I didn’t think self-substantiation was possible” and when he thanks Neo for saving him, Neo says “you saved yourself.”

Did the runner even free himself or did he just briefly peek behind the veil and break the rules of the Matrix, only to spend the rest of his life as a vegetable in the Matrix?

I love these dumb movies. I even think Reloaded is legit good on its own and Revolutions was better than I remember it being when I rewatched it 17 years later without the burden of hype. I also think the two of them are far, far better than any of these huge franchises who do those lame simultaneously-shot Part I & II finales that are split up for no other reason than to milk those dollars.

Don't you do cocaine at ME,
you son of a bitch!
My take on the Runner is that he broke through, but wasn't caught in time by the escaped humans like Neo was, so the machines punished him for it.

So, mentally he knows there's more to this world he's trapped in, but is physically unable to do anything about it.

Yeah, it's why the Agent is watching him so intensely at the end.

When was the last time you watched 1999's The Matrix? Probably not recently.

I watched the whole trilogy a few days ago and man, it loving rules (I mean the first one. Reloaded is just alright and Revolutions isn't good).

The lobby shootout is one of the best action scenes ever filmed. Bullet-time is loving cool. The effects even hold up pretty well. Sure, the Sentinels look a bit dated but the other effects still look great.

Man, what a great goddamn film.

saw this last night with my 14yo daughter she was like where are the jokes and was freestyling terrible jokes that morpheus should be making

overall judgement, cool, but needed more jokes
