It has an IDE port but trying to read it with my USB thingy doesn't work. I suspect I have to have a machine with an IDE port that I can set the number of cylinder & heads in the BIOS. I noticed in this document I found with the specs it mentions an adapter board and not to use the built-in controller. Can I use it without one? I obviously don't have one. https://stason.org/TULARC/pc/hard-drives-hdd/quantum/PRODRIVE-LPS-105-AT-105MB-3-5-SL-IDE-AT.html Also for the specs it has something called Native and Translation. Which would I enter in the BIOS? I thought this hard drive was in a 486 but it looks like it's for a PC-AT too?

It's not as simple as you not setting the master/slave jumper correctly is it?

Gromit posted:It's not as simple as you not setting the master/slave jumper correctly is it? Possibly... The USB thing I have asks for it to be in the Master position. I put a jumper on but it isn't the right size. I bent the pins to make it make contact and it seems fine but... I'm thinking this is just a drive before the era of plug and play (remember that?) and the controller needs to have the correct parameters to know how to read it.
