OP your computer most likely has a serious electrical issue such as a malfunctioning power supply. You need to power it off right away. Inspect the components for signs of burning such as discolored areas or blown capacitors. You may find that there is a thin coating of residue, and any exposed circuit boards may be corroded if it is left with the coating on there. You can probably clean any affected parts with a high % iso solution and a toothbrush. The component that was smoking should be full replaced, and this is probably the power supply. Let me me know if you need any recommendations and if you can take some close up pictures we can probably help you diagnose the cause. I noticed that you said this was a habit for your computer and I strongly recommend you leave it unplugged and powered off until a full repair is performed as a fire could spread to your house or apartment. Yes, posting on the internet is fun, but it's not worth risking a serious fire in your home! Okay good luck, thanks for reading and god bless. two of my computers survived a pretty devestating house fire. they were in the right room so they just got covered with soot and didn't melt. they smelled really bad though. I scrubbed them a ton and eventually they smelled better. the laptop is still a bit discoloured and I bet it still smells like smoke if you sniff it close enough. but it runs stardew valley so my sister is pretty happy with it point is, give your computer to someone else and it won't be your problem
