Once a month, we'll talk about a wrestling move and the wrestlers that do them. This month's move: the dropkick. Wikipedia posted:A dropkick is an attacking maneuver in professional wrestling. It is defined as an attack where the wrestler jumps up and kicks the opponent with the soles of both feet; this sees the wrestler twist as they jump so that when the feet connect with the opponent one foot is raised higher than the other (depending on which way he or she twists) and the wrestler falls back to the mat on his or her side, or front.[1] This is commonly employed by light and nimble wrestlers who can take advantage of their agility, and is often executed on a charging opponent, while charging at an opponent, or a combination of the two. Who do you think has the best dropkick in the history of the business? After that, tell us about your favorite dropkick variation and who does the best version of that. Let's talk about cool wrestling things. I know wrestling history is very deep but I love Okada's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFW3vuTU1jg And in spite of never liking him as a wrestler, I've always really really liked Bob Holly's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5U8Y7ZF-w3E

Okada's dropkick is loving gorgeous and a testament to this talent that he made such a simple move a key part of his arsenal, and a crucial turning point in his matches.

Okada's dropkick is the best. Back in the day I remember loving The Rocker's double-dropkick, which looks not so good seen through modern eyes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeD8wF_yHM8 I also had no idea that they (I think) stole it from The Rock and Roll Express.

not sure that I'd call it the best, but I always loved Curt Hennig's dropkick; him grabbing them by the head as a set-up was cool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fk-iZDiJeBE Please enjoy the first result for "mr perfect dropkick".

Yeah, Perfect really made it look like he was pushing his body away from their faces with his boots and it really made it look... well, you know.

I found Randy Orton's drop kicks quite good back in the day. Again, when he tries... I like Minoru Suzuki's single leg drop kick he likes to spin into off the ropes but he rarely uses it anymore.

From what little I've seen Okada's the only dude I've seen who could hypothetically botch a dropkick by jumping too high and that's awesome.

It has to be Okada, but Orton's is pretty nice too. and no one specific comes to mind at the moment, but an old man wrestler hitting a nice dropkick will always make me mark out.

jericho's spot where he missile dropkicks the opponent standing on the apron used to be very good in the 90s paul london's backflip version was kinda cool. don't know who he stole that from I know i should love them because they can be way more brutal and are inherently japanese but i don't like front dropkicks as much. this may go back to them having poor animations and being lovely in wrestling videogames though, which is asinine

Okada's is obviously the best. Graceful and perfect every time, much like our Golden God himself. Jack Gallagher also has a very good dropkick. Remember the time in the CWC when he did a dropkick so sweet Daniel Bryan nearly shat himself in excitement? It's the first one in this compilation https://youtu.be/dMW45fPBLBg

Cavauro posted:jericho's spot where he missile dropkicks the opponent standing on the apron used to be very good in the 90s there was one version in i think Smackdown!: Here Comes the Pain that had a canned response where it looked brutal. also calling them shotgun dropkicks is really cool and what i do all the time now. and also the top rope version sucked and it double sucked that this was the only way to give a CAW a non-flip senton. same scenario with the top-rope head-scissors/vader bomb

I always liked Daniel Bryan's missile dropkick. He always had good timing on when to extend for impact. It was even better when he kip up and fire up from the floor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLuvw61BhvE

It's really Suzuki. https://twitter.com/allan_cheapshot/status/1064999966282866688 He's pretty much doing the same drop kick as Okada but really rocketing his foot into his opponents face and it looks great.

My abiding memory of Wrestle Kingdom 12, my first New Japan show, is watching Suzuki vs Goto and just losing my mind at Suzuki's dropkick. It was so vicious, it just stuck with me. All the way through the rest of the show with Hiromu jumping off poo poo and doing his sunset bomb to the floor, the debut of the Knife Pervert, Kenny vs Jericho, Okada vs Naito, all I was thinking about was that loving dropkick. That was the moment that I figured I'd be watching New Japan a whole lot going forward, I'm not sure any move has actually impressed me like that, I had never even considered that someone could throw a dropkick that looked so stiff. MiSu's dropkick looks like he'd use it in Pancrase and it not feel ridiculous. That said, others have mentioned it so instead let me talk about SUWA's John Woo dropkick. SUWA is a bit of a forgotten guy these days, but when I have strong memories of reading the DVDVR forum around 05/06 and his was a name that would always come up. He was one of the early Ultimo Dragon Toryumon graduates but he got hurt in 2004 after winning the Ultimo Dragon Gym title and 3 or 4 months later when he returned Toryumon Japan was no more & Dragon Gate was now in existence. He wrestled there for 2 months & then for whatever reason he ended up in NOAH. This is a time where NOAH was the hottest company in the world, they did their only 2 Tokyo Dome shows in '04 & '05 and places like DVDVR were huge on NOAH, Kenta Kobashi is nearing the end of his 2+ year GHC title reign, NOAH was talked about so I finally heard about SUWA. He had some great stuff in the company, there was a Jr Tag title match with Ricky Marvin vs KENTA & Marufuji, & then in '05 there was a Jr Heavyweight match with KENTA at the Budokan. The dude was such a loving prick. Just completely loathable and god drat it was great. And then he retired in 2007 & that loving sucked. Wait, none of that was about this John Woo dropkick, so here's just a couple of gifs of it. Yes, Dragon Kid makes it look better because he's awesome. https://twitter.com/MrLARIATO/status/978395898022686722?s=20 https://twitter.com/MrLARIATO/status/865704868144697344?s=20 And it's really not about the dropkick, but I pimped this match when KENTA signed with New Japan & want to do so again. Natsumi Maki, currently with Tokyo Joshi, does a signature spot I like where she does repeated dropkicks until her opponent is collapsed against the bottom rope and then follows up with a running dropkick to their face. She does it against Riho here, 3:10 if the video doesn't go to the right spot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHLAr1V5WdI&t=190s

at a young age i did a dropkick onto carpet and landed on my knees and rolled over onto my back and laid there hurting for about 20 minutes before getting up and then sat on the couch hurting for another hour or something. i didn't want to go to the hospital so i didn't say anything to my parents. the next day it didn't seem like anything was too wrong. that was probably one of the best dropkicks out there
