I've seen Sunn O))) twice, they're awesome. If you stand in the right spot it feels like you're in a swimming pool. I don't think I can see them again though. Last time I saw them my friend started to talk to me after the show and I heard nothing. I'd never experienced temporary hearing loss like that. Thought for sure I'd lost my hearing for good. This was with earplugs too.

What goes through your head when you decide to listen to this? Not surface level "hurr hipster like bad music on purpose", but genuinely deciding that this is the experience that you want to have. Is it supposed to be a mental power-washing that wipes away any residual trace of rhythm in your head? Atonement for past sins? Inflicting pain on yourself with your wrists over the sink just to feel anything, anything at all? I want to Get It.

I had the original somewhere - someone tell me it's now worth $500 or some poo poo.

I mean it's good for what it is. I like Music for Bondage Performance and Merzbow kinda rattles up your brain somewhat in a goodway - kind of antianxiety.

And yeah there was a whole big scene of noise music here in south central Kansas a while ago. Never went out to it but good for them if their trash banging and randomly assigning distortion plugins in Ableton I guess if it makes 'em feel good (I guess.)

Someone posted this on Discord the other day and it's great martial industrial stomping music, really brings me back: https://kriegshund.bandcamp.com/ Not necessarily noise but it's so good.

Would rather listen to synth doodling though if I'm gonna listen to dad experimental music.

It kinda just clicks with you or it doesn't. There's real pain on tracks with really high frequencies ("Head of Clouds" from Tauromachine comes to mind), but it's not purely masochistic. You have to be willing to just let it act on you, and savor the different textures as they come. Being in a sour mood can help, especially with more aggressive albums like Pulse Demon.

Also, be sober. Pitchfork said "god help the person who finds "Mantra 1" on the stereo with a head full of THC" and I believe it, because the point of noise is to kind of just get lost in it.

i listen to this kind of music to help me sleep at night sometimes. That alarms people when I reveal it to them, its just something about the white noise having structure to it rather than being a constant blaring tone I think.

It sounds good OP. I also found an album I've been trying to remember the name of for a while in the related videos so bonus :yosnice:
