I have just learned the terrible truth: The Young Jedi Knights series of young adult Star War fiction books by inflamed writer Kevin Orenthal James Anderson + wife has better plotting, story and characterizations than any of the movies produced under Disney corporation. In fact it has many of the same ideas but instead of being loving dumb as balls, it's only regular EU-level stupid. for instance: Instead of the Emperor coming back and literally making Snokes, some of his Emperor guards have been piecing together old video clips of the Emperor to make people think he is alive but he actually isn't. (just like Disney is doing with Carrie Fisher  )Also the new Empire is kidnapping children to be soldiers and evil Jedi, but some of them have moral qualms over doing bad things and one of them is a childhood friend of Jaina Solo, Han Solo's daughter who likes flying (he also has a son, Jacen, who likes animals). So there is a lot of conflict going on there that flows naturally instead of being "I woke up one day and felt shooting civilians is bad and shooting my old colleagues is hilarious". There is also a girl called Tenel Ka that needs to be the best at everything but she does a real poo poo job at building a lightsaber and during a sparring session it blows up and her whole arm gets cut off. Holy poo poo there's some Hogwarts level safety hazards going on at Luke's school! But then she decides she doesn't want a robot arm like Luke and prefers a stump and she does okay anyway. Chewbacca's nephew Lowbacca is also there.

Yes. It is a mystery why there are no super Death Stars in the Young Jedi Knights books except for that disease some organization is inventing that only kills humans or something. But it is possible it was in fact his wife that was doing most of the writing.
