https://youtu.be/X_Yt2LcCqrk it’s a friday and you just got home from school. you and your crush have hung out a few times already and things are getting serious: her friends told you that she likes you, and your friends told her the same thing about you. despite it being the middle of winter it’s sunny and warm today, kind of like the days you get during statewide testing week that secures your school’s blue ribbon award, despite everyone bubbling their answers in with zero thought. last year, everyone joked about being test-taking magicians because ‘ABACADABA’ sounds like ‘abracadabra’. before you got off the bus, she asked if you wanted to longboard around the loop at the park. the walkway around the pond is like a sidewalk that makes your board go kah-koonk kah-koonk kah-koonk but it’s smooth and easy to ride on. you told her yes and as much as you wanted to sprint home, you played it cool and casually walked back. you get inside and are greeted by your dog who has been your homie since the day you adopted him on your 7th birthday. he’s getting to be in his older years, but he’s still got that puppy energy. he’s a good boy. you then walk upstairs and before grabbing your board, you find yourself standing in front of your older brother’s room. last week, he showed you how to loosen your trucks a bit because you thought tighter trucks = less speed wobbles. he laughed a bit and said “you’d think that, but in reality you wanna relax them a bit. as long as you keep your weight forward and carve out, you’re gucci.” you knock on his door and ask if you can borrow his skate tool. your trucks are fine, but you remember your crush telling you how she keeps getting speed wobbles and has to jump off her board all the time so she doesn’t fall. he’s totally cool with it as long as you don’t lose it, otherwise you owe him like $10 or something - he has to double check how much they cost but no worries, just don’t lose it. you step outside with your brother’s skate tool in hand and your board tucked under your arm. the song that was playing in his room was super catchy and it’s stuck in your head. if all goes well, by dinner time your crush will become your bae. |
