our last blender thread, low poly animals, went pretty well I thought. now let's make some spaceships, to complement our traveling thread! this is a great thread for byob newbies to post in to help collect your gang tags btw. obligatory low-effort starter render:  what's blender? check the blender thrad, and download it free and clear from blender.org. how to make a spaceship? there are plenty of approaches. for example, find an image of a spaceship you think is cool and try to duplicate it and/or customize to your liking. another approach is to use lots of small simple components and jam them together in various ways to make interesting shapes. this approach is sometimes called "kitbashing." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZe00W_WDq0 spend an hour and a half and make something kind of badass (note: this one is not a tutorial, it's a time lapse): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wf9dncFQ69o spend ten minutes and make something that looks pretty good for the amount of work involved: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVXuPJuAMJ4 spend ten seconds and make the laziest spaceship imaginable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cas6bl55M5s heck, y'all know how to google, there are plenty of spaceship tutorials for blender 2.8 at various levels of proficiency. okay! ten . . . nine . . eight . . . |

although i keep getting sidetracked from making another spaceship, i am having a lot of fun playing around with blender. last time i tried this program out was probably two years ago, and since then i got some experience using rhino cad. granted they're meant for two different things, but i think the exposure to that kind of workspace made jumping back into blender less intimidating |

it was more a reflection on the literal hours i've spent not being able to join two objects in rhino because of something being ever-so-slightly off. i'd go to fix it and then i still wouldn't be able to join the two objects because it led to a million other issues. it *usually* made sense why the objects couldn't join, but drat was it frustrating |
