After the death of LF, in 2010/11, there were a few "LFest Picture" threads in D&D. This OP of the 5th one let over 30 pages of discussion happen, over a month go by, then he edited in a single picture from Groverhaus into the first post. Not a bunch of Groverhaus pictures, just one single one among 10 other leftist political photos. He was permabanned. One or two of us questioned this:Teriyaki Hairpiece posted:Don't forget, he reposted it with no commentary of any kind. It was solely the image, no words, no insults, nothing. Not an image of some illegal kind of pornography or grotesque violence or anything. A picture from the inside of a house that someone else had freely posted on these same Something Awful forums intending to share with other users of the site. Without a single word attached to it. I was probated for 3 days for that post. The thread was almost immediately gassed. There were no more LF picture threads. It was always the mods. It was always the moderation climate. If you make it harder to post, people won't post. If you make this website a more unpleasant place to post, people won't post here. This is like half my life reading the forums and watching them bleed users talking. Also simple loving common sense.

I joined in 06 and people were constantly decrying the decline of the forums and making big drama-filled banme posts even then so trying to identify a specific period where SA "went wrong" seems like a fruitless endeavor.
