I was driving yesterday and this came on the radio and just wrecked me:

Between the lyrics about... well, remembering everything, and John Prine dying from COVID-19 earlier this year... oof.

What gets you directly in the nostalgia, or sums up your current life, or reminds you of days gone by, and why?

Eat a dick unicycle boy!
Here is one of my favourite things that seems relevant

It's basically a compare and contrast if two greats of cinema using subject as a theme

Man at table

Kissing

A parade

Wartime devastation

Etc

It is also set to just a beautiful piece of music ( from 2016's Arrival, which is beautiful movie aswell)

The whole 2-3 minutes has this effect of knocking back shots of cinematic juice and is very :discourse:

This one made me feel a number of things I don't think I can quite articulate. It feels like something out of another world, and it kind of is, being Soviet-era animation, but the more of this kind of thing I watch, the more I appreciate it. Where it looks cheap or cost-cutting it speaks to me more of artistic choice. Certain things are animated in only a few frames while others are quite lush. It's nice to hear a real orchestrated piece that carries it along. I've never been a big fan of the super polished Disney style of animation, and I've only recently been exposed to this style in my life but it does resonate with something in me. Something about the whole composition of it feels very deliberate and sincere.

I feel similarly about this:

It's a Russian adaptation of The Little Mermaid that's a bit closer to the original text as I understand it. So much of the texturing and what looks to me like papercraft animation is beautiful to see in motion. I'm not much of an artist or an animation buff, so I would never have even conceived of this style of animation if I hadn't seen it. It has the feel of a kaleidoscope arranged into a scene.
