the dprk is super interesting and raises the recurring question of “what is communism” in some ways, it has the institutions, atmosphere, and style of unreformed Stalinism even though they’ve theoretically abandoned the Marxist-Leninist framework in other ways it is a quasi-mystical, kinda new-Confucian monarchy North Korea is a land of contrasts
