Faarooq Mahal Jr. (3-1, OVR 454) vs. Lord Robert Abernathy (2-2, OVR 491) A decent match to open the show, this was a close one that could have gone either way. However, some might say that Mahal’s one-track mind for focusing on grappling cost him here, as the veteran Abernathy was able to avoid the Maharaja Clip on both attempts, and surprised Mahal with a Shatterfall immediately off a counter forearm (when logic usually dictates that’s not going to work) to score the pin in our opening bout tonight, and puts pressure on Devil’s Delight to score a win later on to maintain the Green Division lead. (It still boggles my mind to actually type those words out in that particular order and actually have it make factual sense!) Lord Robert Abernathy (3-2) def. Faarooq Mahal Jr. (3-2) via Pinfall (Shatterfall) in 20:32. Rating: ** Changes for Lord Robert Abernathy: OVR + 4.56, XP + 489.86, minor damage to head and arms Changes for Faarooq Mahal Jr.: OVR -0.08, XP + 122.46, minor damage to head Hans Nitschke (1-3, OVR 449) vs. Sin (1-3, OVR 421) BLACK DIVISION FIRST BLOOD MATCH It’s not very often that one can point to a manager getting involved in RRW, and state that the moment of interference was the turning point of the match. It can be said about this match. Hijo del Cadaver tripped up Sin a little over four minutes in, and as Sin turned to yell at Cadaver, Nitschke yanked Sin down violently by her hair. By the time Sin managed to get a little more offense in, five minutes had elapsed and she was already nearing the point where a finisher could be brought into play. Her brief attempt at a comeback salvaged this from being a squash match, but the advantage was too great for Nitschke as he planted Sin with the Euthanasia Driver for the pinfall victory. Hans Nitschke (2-3) def. Sin (1-4) via Pinfall (Euthanasia Driver) in 13:19. Rating: ** Changes for Hans Nitschke: OVR + 4.15, XP + 413.43, minor damage to head Changes for Sin: OVR -0.07, XP + 121.60, minor damage to head Reverend Johnny Gross (3-1, OVR 507) vs. Blood River (4-0, OVR 484) BLACK DIVISION CAGE MATCH For a match touted as being for the early lead in the Black Division, this was a little underwhelming and barely outside squash territory. Gross controlled the majority of the match, and with the cage preventing The Acolyte from being a factor, nothing stopped Gross when he finally applied Come to Jesus from releasing the hold until Blood River had fully passed out. It was academic from that point for Gross to just walk to the cage door and calmly exit for the win. Reverend Johnny Gross (4-1) def. Blood River (4-1) via Cage Escape (Come to Jesus) in 10:48. Rating: ** Changes for Reverend Johnny Gross: OVR + 4.01, XP + 485.18, no notable damage Changes for Blood River: OVR + 0.64, XP + 121.30, minor damage to head Yoshii Nakamatsu (2-2, OVR 504) vs. Elyssa Anderson (1-3, OVR 469) YELLOW DIVISION If you blinked, you may have missed this rematch from last week. Even for the first two minutes, Nakamatsu dropped Anderson with an implant DDT and got a shock pin just five and a half minutes in. The quick match certainly did them no favors with Maven Deltzer. Yoshii Nakamatsu (3-2) def. Elyssa Anderson (1-4) via Pinfall (Implant DDT) in 5:32. Rating: * Changes for Yoshii Nakamatsu: OVR + 2.62, XP + 442.43, no notable damage Changes for Elyssa Anderson: OVR -0.8, XP + 110.61, no notable damage Brian Blackfield (3-1, OVR 517) vs. Markus Clay (2-2, OVR 494) YELLOW DIVISION After the author had to go back into the database to fix some errors that, a week later, he was still unable to sus out how they manifested, the second running of this match saw Blackfield in control for most of the second half of the contest. Clay managed some decent offense, focusing on the battered head of Blackfield, but Clay was unable to counter every attempt at the Scotland Destroyer, as the fourth one to be attempted finally hit, and sealed the match. Brian Blackfield (4-1) def. Markus Clay (2-3) via Pinfall (Scotland Destroyer) in 11:48. Rating: ** Changes for Brian Blackfield: OVR + 4.07, XP + 485.66, minor damage to head Changes for Markus Clay: OVR -0.07, XP + 121.42, minor damage to head Otto von Schwarz (2-2, OVR 488) vs. Lance Heartilly (4-0, OVR 511) This was probably the closest match Heartilly has had since repeating as RRW Champion. While he took an early advantage, he had a hard time keeping the giant down for too long, and von Schwarz used this to fight his way back into the contest. At one point, he had Heartilly on the brink of being vulnerable to Gute Nacht. Alas, he never got the chance to try it, as a surprise Heartilly Arm Breaker softened Otto up enough that the Hellacious Leglock could follow, and Lance escapes week five with his perfect record intact. Lance Heartilly (5-0) def. Otto von Schwarz (2-3) via Submission (Hellacious Leglock) in 16:08. Rating: ** Changes for Lance Heartilly: OVR + 4.31, XP + 487.74, minor damage to head Changes for Otto von Schwarz: OVR -0.08, XP + 121.94, minor damage to head Mel O'Hallister (2-2, OVR 456) vs. Indigo Rose (1-3, OVR 447) This could have been Match of the Night worthy if Maven Deltzer hadn’t decided to spend most of the twenty-one minutes of this contest planning out an article on how the Internet Wrestling Community was ruining the sport in modern times. A shame, really, as this was close throughout. Some might think the finish took too long to happen, and they could be considered right from certain points of view, but the fact of the matter is in this one, O’Hallister simply could not keep Rose in position long enough to hit his reverse DDT. He had at least eight attempts to do so, all of which were unsuccessful. Rose only needed one attempt at her submission finisher to lock it in, and stun O’Hallister with an upset victory. After dominating the Red Division last season, O’Hallister has struggled in his second season, with no end currently in sight. Indigo Rose (2-3) def. Mel O'Hallister (2-3) via Submission (Vite d’Indaco) in 21:22. Rating: ** Changes for Indigo Rose: OVR + 4.61, XP + 490.26, moderate damage to head Changes for Mel O'Hallister: OVR -0.08, XP + 122.56, minor damage to head Pulsar (1-3, OVR 498) vs. El Tornado (1-3, OVR 459) ORANGE DIVISION Tess Bradenbury: Welcome back, folks. Coming up next is a match that’s likely to be extremely quick-paced, given that it’s an Orange Division clash. Johnny Tyler: Except it’s between the two people at the bottom of the Orange Division, so who cares? Tess Bradenbury: My counterpart’s grumpy attitude aside, we’re in for some good lucha action as Pulsar and El Tornado square off. Pulsar is looking to move to a perfect 5-0 against Tornado in this one. Johnny Tyler: Then this is just going to be even more of a snoozefest that we thought. Boring! Tess Bradenbury: Both men have already entered the ring, the ref signals for the bell and we’re off! quote:(00:07) El Tornado hit a Running Clothesline Johnny Tyler: Please. Way too early to even think about a Zodiac Splash. Tess Bradenbury: May have been going for a missile dropkick, Johnny. Or a fist drop, or something else. Johnny Tyler: Pfft. Details. quote:(04:21) El Tornado applied a Candado Invertido Tess Bradenbury: High risk, no reward that time as Pulsar lands hard on the mat! Johnny Tyler: In other words, the most enjoyable thing about this match so far. Tess Bradenbury: What is your issue tonight, Johnny? You’ve been a grump all show! Johnny Tyler: You try focusing on stuff when random people come into your quarters here on Fight Island for no reason than to make sure the place isn’t a health hazard five, six, seven times a day, see how you feel! Tess Bradenbury: Wait, what? That’s insane! Johnny Tyler: I swear, the Duke of Clarence has it out for me, Tess. Swear it on my life. quote:(07:43) El Tornado hit a Seated Back Dropkick Tess Bradenbury: That may be their history coming into play here. Tornado knew it was coming and put a stop to Pulsar’s attempts to end the match right then and there! Johnny Tyler: Well, yeah. If you lose four times in the same way, you’re either going to learn eventually or be an utter joke in RRW. quote:(10:50) El Tornado hit a Leaping Elbow Drop Johnny Tyler: No way. This can’t be happening! Tess Bradenbury: Tornado holds on for the cover…one…two…THREE! It took him three seasons but finally, El Tornado has scored his first win over Pulsar in RRW competition! Johnny Tyler: Ah, dammit. And Here I wagered a good $2,000 on Pulsar winning in under 15 minutes! Tess Bradenbury: Let that be a moral, kids—don’t bet on professional wrestling! El Tornado (2-3) def. Pulsar (1-4) via Pinfall (Tornado Splash) in 14:51. Rating: *** Changes for El Tornado: OVR + 5.49, XP + 602.72, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body Changes for Pulsar: OVR + 0.76, XP + 206.93, minor damage to head and body This was the Match of the Night (7 [2 this season] for El Tornado, 3 [1 this season] for Pulsar) Diamond Steel (3-1, OVR 485) vs. Daniel Simmons (0-4, OVR 494) If this had gone another three or four minutes it may have been in Match of the Night contendership. As it stood, though, it was a close match, with some back and forth including a nice comeback sequence by Simmons, who turned a nearly-disastrous missed Working Man’s Dropkick into a good comeback, hitting a later Dropkick but just unable to stun Steel long enough to go for a finisher. It took Steel three tries but she finally managed to hit the All Out Blitz to secure the pinfall, and send Simmons careening to a winless 0-5 record. Diamond Steel (4-1) def. Daniel Simmons (0-5) via Pinfall (All Out Blitz) in 16:58. Rating: ** Changes for Diamond Steel: OVR + 4.36, XP + 488.14, minor damage to head Changes for Daniel Simmons: OVR -0.08, XP + 122.04, moderate damage to head Eugene Nagata (0-4, OVR 465) vs. Jean-Paul Ouilette (1-3, OVR 416) WHITE DIVISION I’m certain you’ve heard the expression many, many times over. “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Folks, what I’m about to show you is a literal first for me, in well over 700 matches run in this engine. I will let you devise your own stories and summaries to this, because I cannot do the moment justice. (Yes, I saved the play-by-play for posterity in case anyone is morbidly interested in reading this.) Eugene Nagata (1-4) def. Jean-Paul Ouilette (1-4) via Pinfall (Nagata Special) in 12:15. Rating: DUD Changes for Eugene Nagata: OVR + 1.69, XP + 404.90, no notable damage Changes for Jean-Paul Ouilette: OVR -1.69, XP + 101.23, minor damage to head The Siberian Nightmare (4-0, OVR 440) vs. Vladimir Chavinski (2-2, OVR 462) Breaking the fourth wall for a moment, I want to say that it’s absolute horseshit that this match wasn’t rated three stars or better. That said… After the disaster that was the last match, this one came down to the wire. About nine minutes deep, Chavinski managed to bust open Nightmare with a hard knee strike to the head, made worse two minutes later with a DDT and then a bit of ground and pound. Nightmare was not going to succumb that easily, however, and rushed a taunt by Vladimir and soon after hit a pinning powerbomb that netted only one and a half. Chavinski regained control, and after a couple failed attempts at the rear naked choke, he landed a stump piledriver which made Nightmare’s blood loss problems worse. Another DDT just thirty seconds later had the ref ready to call the match off, and the ref probably would have if Chavinski had managed to lock in the rear naked choke. The blood running down Nightmare’s face may have kept Chavinski from getting a solid lock on the hold, though, and Nightmare’s last-ditch comeback began, ending just under two minutes later with a desperation Siberian Avalanche. Nightmare literally fell into the cover, unable to even hook a leg, but it was enough to give Nightmare the win and move him to a well-earned 5-0 on the season. The Siberian Nightmare (5-0) def. Vladimir Chavinski (2-3) via Pinfall (Siberian Avalanche) in 17:15. Rating: ** Changes for The Siberian Nightmare: OVR + 4.38, XP + 488.28, moderate damage to head Changes for Vladimir Chavinski: OVR -0.08, XP + 122.07, minor damage to head and body Jack Braddock (3-1, OVR 498) vs. Devil's Delight (2-2, OVR 404) It’s amazing what a little confidence will do to a person. When these two faced off last season, Delight made a match of it, but only barely as Braddock controlled a fair portion. This time, coming in with two wins under her belt, Delight took the fight to Braddock early, and for a little while looked to extend her win total to three. However, she got caught in the corner and endured well over two minutes of blows and taunts without a pause, which all but ended her chances. She did have the Jack Attack scouted well enough to avoid it a few times, and did manage to hit Hellborne Rising once, but Braddock proved to be too much for her, as he eventually landed a Jack Attack to send Delight out of the Green Division lead after just two weeks. Jack Braddock (4-1) def. Devil's Delight (2-3) via Pinfall (Jack Attack) in 13:06. Rating: ** Changes for Jack Braddock: OVR + 4.14, XP + 486.29, minor damage to head Changes for Devil's Delight: OVR -0.07, XP + 121.57, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body Sven Ulafsson (1-3, OVR 445) vs. Hailey Carmichael (4-0, OVR 502) Hailey’s arrogance in insisting that she didn’t need to make Sven tap out, and would simply pin him after punching in the crotch, nearly came back to haunt her as her second attempt at a low blow resulted in her being hoisted by her neck and dropped into a Nordic Backbreaker for her troubles. Ulafsson missed the following elbow drop, though, and Carmichael wasted no further time in getting her submission finisher locked in. It was academic a few seconds later, as Hailey keeps pace with Lance Heartilly in the Blue Division. Hailey Carmichael (5-0) def. Sven Ulafsson (1-4) via Submission (#NoFilter) in 15:27. Rating: ** Changes for Hailey Carmichael: OVR + 4.28, XP + 487.42, no notable damage Changes for Sven Ulafsson: OVR -0.08, XP + 121.85, minor damage to head Billy Norris (3-1, OVR 504) vs. Sterling Silver (3-1, OVR 457) ORANGE DIVISION This match would determine the early leader in the Orange Division. It ended up being a full-on sprint, eventually being led by Norris who hit the first big move (a seated dropkick that caught Silver flush in the face). Silver would get enough offense in to make it a respectable bout, but Norris took the advantage from hitting that first big move and ran with it all the way to a quick, sub-ten-minute victory, and early control of the Orange Division. Billy Norris (4-1) def. Sterling Silver (3-2) via Pinfall (Down Under Disaster) in 9:36. Rating: ** Changes for Billy Norris: OVR + 3.94, XP + 484.61, no notable damage Changes for Sterling Silver: OVR -0.07, XP + 121.15, minor damage to head Brandy McDonald (3-1, OVR 495) vs. George Mastachas (1-3, OVR 434) WHITE DIVISION A fair number of the matches this week have been decided by whomever hits the first big move of the match, as usually one chains into two or three before the defender can recover. That was not the case here, as Mastachas got the first big move, but was unable to chain several together. Brandy would fight back, and the two would have big shots throughout, right until the end. You’d be excused for missing the ending, it happened that quick. Mastachas was in control, looking for a running forearm to stun Brandy and open her up for a Wrath of Zeus attempt, but McDonald countered with a quick jab, and immediately hit Brandy With a Twist before Mastachas even had a chance to register he had been countered. Three second later, McDonald solidified her stranglehold on the White Division lead, with three wins separating her from the entirety of the division. Brandy McDonald (4-1) def. George Mastachas (1-4) via Pinfall (Brandy With a Twist) in 17:40. Rating: ** Changes for Brandy McDonald: OVR + 4.40, XP + 488.48, minor damage to head Changes for George Mastachas: OVR -0.08, XP + 122.12, minor damage to head Angela Wassermann (1-3, OVR 422) vs. Erick Gibson (0-4, OVR 416) What many expected to be a lackluster main event turned out to be a decent match in the end. Karen McClure got involved around the nine minute mark, stopping Wassermann from hitting a chop block, but for a few minutes afterwards it looked like the interference may have been in vain as Wassermann quickly got back on the attack. A couple of Probationary Hearings gave Gibson a fighting chance, and eventually, he connected with a Terminable Offense to notch his first win of the season in a good match to close week five. Erick Gibson (1-4) def. Angela Wassermann (1-4) via Pinfall (Terminable Offense) in 15:22. Rating: ** Changes for Erick Gibson: OVR + 4.27, XP + 414.27, no notable damage Changes for Angela Wassermann: OVR -0.08, XP + 121.84, minor damage to head =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= SEASON THREE STANDINGS—AFTER WEEK 5 OF 16 RINGSPORTS CONFERENCE RED DIVISION 1. Otto von Schwarz (2-3, OVR 488) vs. Vladimir Chavinski (2-3, OVR 462) Tess Bradenbury: Good evening, everyone, and welcome to week six of Rowdy Ringsports Wrestling! Tess Bradenbury here along with Johnny Tyler, and Johnny, tonight we’re starting with a heavyweight fight! Johnny Tyler: Not sure if I’d call it a fight more than a mismatch, Tess. Someone’s getting to .500 on the season here, and I think it’ll be the giant! Tess Bradenbury: They’re all the same size on the mat, Johnny. I think Chavinski finds a way! Johnny Tyler: Provided he can even knock the giant down… Tess Bradenbury: All of our principals have gathered in the ring, folks, and there’s the bell to get week six officially under way! quote:(00:05) Chavinski blocked a Slap To Chest Tess Bradenbury: It still boggles me that someone von Schwarz’s size has to resort to those kind of tactics. Johnny Tyler: Could you physically stop him, Tess? Tess Bradenbury: No. Johnny Tyler: And that’s why he does what he does. No one is going to stop him physically from doing so, so why stop until he has to? quote:(04:13) von Schwarz hit a Running Knee Drop Johnny Tyler: Otto showing Chavinski how to sucker someone in for a cheap shot. I like it! Tess Bradenbury: It’s still completely unnecessary, Johnny! Johnny Tyler: So? It was a perfectly legal right hand! Tess Bradenbury: Oy…. quote:(08:16) Chavinski countered a Kick To Gut with a Leg Kick Tess Bradenbury: Chavinski may be in big trouble here! von Schwarz hit that flush! Johnny Tyler: If I didn’t know better, I’d swear the ring shifted an inch or two towards us on that impact! Otto got all of that one! quote:(10:28) Chavinski blocked a Headbutt To Groin Johnny Tyler: See, Tess, everyone’s vulnerable there! Size means nothing if you get nailed there! Tess Bradenbury: I still think it’s absolutely stupid that the ref actually counted after that. Have some scruples! Johnny Tyler: Is that related to scrapple? Tess Bradenbury: …it’s going to be a long night. quote:(13:39) von Schwarz hit a DDT Johnny Tyler: Come on, Otto, power out of this! Tess Bradenbury: Chavinski has the hooks in deep here, and he has it locked on tight! If von Schwarz can find a way out, he’s going to need to do it quickly…no, wait, there’s the tap! This one is over, as Vladimir Chavinski submits the giant to move to an even 3-3 on the season! Johnny Tyler: I want to see a replay of that, Tess, I think Chavinski was doing something shady as well! Tess Bradenbury: Wait, so we have people punching each other in the crotch, and that is what you want to focus on?! Johnny Tyler: Well, yeah. That just cost me a couple hundred dollars! Tess Bradenbury: And yet somehow I’m still surprised…. Vladimir Chavinski (3-3) def. Otto von Schwarz (2-4) via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) in 15:09. Rating: *** Changes for Vladimir Chavinski: OVR + 5.51, XP + 602.88, minor damage to head and body Changes for Otto von Schwarz: OVR + 0.76, XP + 206.97, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body This was the Match of the Night (2 [1 this season] for Vladimir Chavinski, 10 [2 this season] for Otto von Schwarz) Jean-Paul Ouilette (1-4, OVR 414) vs. Brian Blackfield (4-1, OVR 521) HARDCORE MATCH So as seems to be common in RRW, the Match of the Night was followed by an absolute squash. Blackfield never broke a sweat as he put Ouilette away with minimal effort. Brian Blackfield (5-1) def. Jean-Paul Ouilette (1-5) via Pinfall (Scotland Destroyer) in 6:00. Rating: * Changes for Brian Blackfield: OVR + 2.64, XP + 442.64, no notable damage Changes for Jean-Paul Ouilette: OVR -0.80, XP + 110.66, minor damage to head Eugene Nagata (1-4, OVR 467) vs. Yoshii Nakamatsu (3-2, OVR 507) SUBMISSION MATCH The author is fully convinced at this point that Eugene Nagata is specifically going out of his way to piss off Maven Deltzer. This week’s crime? After squandering the chance given to him by Shaft Sonnen interfering in the match, Nagata waited for about five minutes further, as the match continued at ringside, before regaining control…and locking in a hammerlock that he held on to for five full minutes with minimal interruptions from Nakamatsu. Then, when the time came, he didn’t even bother with the Nagata Lock 5, looking instead for some sort of arm-based submission based off of how long he worked the hammerlock. Nakamatsu would eventually break free and on his fourth attempt lock in a sloppy but effective ankle lock to submit Nagata for the win. Yoshii Nakamatsu (4-2) def. Eugene Nagata (1-5) via Submission (Force Submission) in 23:15. Rating: * Changes for Yoshii Nakamatsu: OVR + 3.33, XP + 450.23, minor damage to head Changes for Eugene Nagata: OVR -1.01, XP + 95.67, minor damage to head George Mastachas (1-4, OVR 434) vs. Elyssa Anderson (1-4, OVR 469) After the last two matches, this was at least competitive if not too terribly exciting. This went back and forth several times in the ten minutes it ran, but Mastachas would get the last laugh as he avoided a dropkick to the knee from Anderson, hit a forearm and immediately turned it into a Wrath of Zeus to keep Anderson down for the pin. George Mastachas (2-4) def. Elyssa Anderson (1-5) via Pinfall (Wrath of Zeus) in 10:10. Rating: ** Changes for George Mastachas: OVR + 3.98, XP + 484.88, minor damage to head Changes for Elyssa Anderson: OVR -0.07, XP + 121.22, minor damage to head Mel O'Hallister (2-3, OVR 456) vs. Diamond Steel (4-1, OVR 489) A matchup bordering on Match of the Night contender territory. O’Hallister had the early advantage, and nearly got a submission with the Irish Clover, but Steel fought off any attempts for Mel to get behind her for the Dream of the Emerald Isle. Steel would get the easier end of the deal, only needing a single attempt to hit her All Out Blitz and send O’Hallister careening down to a 2-4 record, a far cry from his success last season just six weeks in. Diamond Steel (5-1) def. Mel O'Hallister (2-4) via Pinfall (All Out Blitz) in 15:57. Rating: ** Changes for Diamond Steel: OVR + 4.30, XP + 487.66, minor damage to head Changes for Mel O'Hallister: OVR -0.08, XP + 121.91, minor damage to head Lord Robert Abernathy (3-2, OVR 496) vs. Pulsar (1-4, OVR 499) A step or two above a full squash, Abernathy controlled most of the match and won with a punch to the crotch. Rather underwhelming, all told. Lord Robert Abernathy (4-2) def. Pulsar (1-5) via Pinfall (Begging Off Low Blow) in 10:09. Rating: * Changes for Lord Robert Abernathy: OVR + 2.81, XP + 444.47, minor damage to head Changes for Pulsar: OVR -0.85, XP + 111.12, minor damage to head Brandy McDonald (4-1, OVR 499) vs. Markus Clay (2-3, OVR 494) HARDCORE MATCH Unlike the previous hardcore bout this week, this one never left the ring. Clay naturally used the lack of a rulebook to full effect, going to eye pokes and normally-illegal chokes early and often. Brandy gave back as good as she got, keeping the match close, but found herself at the wrong place at the wrong time. A hard spear caught her flush, driving the wind out of her and leaving her unable to kick out before even a dozen minutes had passed in the contest. Clay moves to 2-0 in the regular season against McDonald with the pin. Markus Clay (3-3) def. Brandy McDonald (4-2) via Pinfall (Spear) in 11:20. Rating: ** Changes for Markus Clay: OVR + 4.04, XP + 485.44, no notable damage Changes for Brandy McDonald: OVR -0.07, XP + 121.36, minor damage to head Lance Heartilly (5-0, OVR 516) vs. Indigo Rose (2-3, OVR 452) BLUE DIVISION This went pretty much how you’d expect it to go. Rose started off how, Heartilly took over, and controlled the remainder of the bout en route to going to 5-0 lifetime against Rose. Lance Heartilly (6-0) def. Indigo Rose (2-4) via Submission (Hellacious Leglock) in 9:55. Rating: * Changes for Lance Heartilly: OVR + 2.80, XP + 444.36, no notable damage Changes for Indigo Rose: OVR -0.85, XP + 111.09, minor damage to head Sven Ulafsson (1-4, OVR 445) vs. Angela Wassermann (1-4, OVR 422) Another bout bordering Match of the Night territory, this went about nine minutes longer than it needed to, as neither wrestler could connect with their finishing maneuvers despite numerous attempts. Wasserman could slip out of Pure Power, while Ulafsson used his size and strength to break the cross arm breaker. The war of attrition finally ended in favor of Wasserman, who finally got her submission hold locked in and scored the tap out after a minor marathon of a contest. Angela Wassermann (2-4) def. Sven Ulafsson (1-5) via Submission (Cross Arm Breaker) in 26:20. Rating: ** Changes for Angela Wassermann: OVR + 4.89, XP + 492.64, minor damage to head and body Changes for Sven Ulafsson: OVR -0.09, XP + 123.16, major damage to head Daniel Simmons (0-5, OVR 494) vs. Devil's Delight (2-3, OVR 404) GREEN DIVISION A true Match of the Night contender, this one had a little of everything. Delight started off hot, Simmons made a comeback only to be thwarted twice by Devil’s Angel to prevent his finisher, Delight made a comeback of her own, kicked out of a Blue Collar Driver, somehow avoided being submitted to a Quitting Time, and nearly got Simmons into finisher territory before Simmons locked in Quitting Time yet again to finally get his first win of the season. It was certainly one he had to earn, though, as Delight could have won this with a few rolls more in her favor. Daniel Simmons (1-5) def. Devil's Delight (2-4) via Submission (Quitting Time) in 14:51. Rating: *** Changes for Daniel Simmons: OVR + 5.49, XP + 527.72, minor damage to head Changes for Devil's Delight: OVR + 0.76, XP + 131.93, moderate damage to head Billy Norris (4-1, OVR 508) vs. Sterling Silver (3-2, OVR 457) ORANGE DIVISION These two had a tough act to follow, but still managed well as this was a close bout throughout. One of Silver’s better performances this season, she nearly had Norris in danger near the end, but a couple of seated dropkicks that went awry would spell the difference for her in this one. Norris only needed a single attempt at the Down Under Disaster to put Silver down for the pin in what was ultimately a good television match. Billy Norris (5-1) def. Sterling Silver (3-3) via Pinfall (Down Under Disaster) in 11:16. Rating: ** Changes for Billy Norris: OVR + 4.04, XP + 485.41, minor damage to head Changes for Sterling Silver: OVR -0.07, XP + 121.35, minor damage to head Hans Nitschke (2-3, OVR 453) vs. Blood River (4-1, OVR 484) BLACK DIVISION A lengthy contest that had a period of about four minutes that just seemed awkward and out of place, this one was closer on paper than it actually was. Hijo del Cadaver got ejected early on for tripping up River, and while Nitschke managed a little offense afterwards he was still being outpaced by River. On River’s second successful Sacrifice, Nitschke found himself busted open and went on a rampage, battering River while he stood on the apron for close to five minutes without even pulling him into the ring, only finally relenting when he realized he’d need to in order to hit his finisher. He’d never get a chance to use it, though, as River fought back and eventually hit another Sacrifice into a Crimson Regret for the pinfall in one of the longer low-rated bouts you’ll find. Blood River (5-1) def. Hans Nitschke (2-4) via Pinfall (Crimson Regret) in 19:09. Rating: * Changes for Blood River: OVR + 3.17, XP + 448.43, moderate damage to head Changes for Hans Nitschke: OVR -0.96, XP + 95.29, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body Erick Gibson (1-4, OVR 420) vs. El Tornado (2-3, OVR 464) EUROPEAN RULES MATCH The live feed picked up this match at the start of the sixth round, showing some of the highlights from the previous five. Chief among them was Karen McClure stopping a Tornado Splash in both rounds four and five, leading to her ejection by the official at the tail end of round five. Gibosn came out firing to start round six, a quick running forearm setting up a just-as-fast Terminable Offense to score the first fall. Tornado would not let that go down so easily, picking up his first fall just barely a minute later after hitting a top rope clothesline. Gibson would have a couple more shots at scoring the second fall in the sixth and seventh rounds, but was unable to hit the Terminable Offense again. Tornado, after failing to win the match off repeated top rope clotheslines, finally remembered that McClure had been ejected from ringside, and this time landed the Tornado Splash to score the decisive fall on Gibson mere seconds before the end of the seventh round. El Tornado (3-3) def. Erick Gibson (1-5), Two Falls to One, in 34:49. Rating: ** Fall 1: Gibson, pinfall via Terminable Offense, 25:29 Fall 2: Tornado, pinfall via Top Rope Clothesline, 26:26 Fall 3: Tornado, pinfall via Tornado Splash, 34:49 Changes for El Tornado: OVR + 5.37, XP + 496.71, moderate damage to head and body Changes for Erick Gibson: OVR -0.09, XP + 105.55, major damage to head, moderate damage to body Reverend Johnny Gross (4-1, OVR 511) vs. Sin (1-4, OVR 421) BLACK DIVISION This ended up being a competitive, if brief, bout. Sin had the early advantage, but being out of the ring for the last season when Gross had gotten to the RRW Championship match hurt her chances here. Once Gross got a firm grasp of the contest, he was able to keep Sin down with an implant DDT for the pin. A few viewers would later report that it seemed like Sin simply refused to kick out, fanning some speculation that she and Gross had become an item over the last few months. Reverend Johnny Gross (5-1) def. Sin (1-5) via Pinfall (Implant DDT) in 8:09. Rating: ** Changes for Reverend Johnny Gross: OVR + 3.86, XP + 483.91, no notable damage Changes for Sin: OVR -0.07, XP + 120.98, no notable damage Hailey Carmichael (5-0, OVR 506) vs. Faarooq Mahal Jr. (3-2, OVR 454) BLUE DIVISION This one was also on the cusp of Match of the Night contendership. A fairly even match throughout, Mahal was able to utilize his preferred tactic of wearing down his opponent with various holds to open Carmichael up to a variety of offense. He seemed particularly fond of the single-arm DDT in this match, hitting it a few times. Carmichael got some offense in herself, but never really enough to stop the onslaught of holds from Mahal, and Leslie Burell was a non-factor in this one, never attempting to get involved in the contest. In the end, Mahal’s strategy would work for him, as he was able to tap out Carmichael with his finisher to hand the future Duchess of Clarence her first loss of the season and finally cause a little separation in the Blue Division rankings. Faarooq Mahal Jr. (4-2) def. Hailey Carmichael (5-1) via Submission (Full Metal Jacket) in 21:56. Rating: ** Changes for Faarooq Mahal Jr.: OVR + 4.64, XP + 490.53, minor damage to head Changes for Hailey Carmichael: OVR -0.08, XP + 122.63, minor damage to head and arms The Siberian Nightmare (5-0, OVR 445) vs. Jack Braddock (4-1, OVR 502) After the technical battle in the semi-main, this ended up being a slugfest. Braddock had the advantage for most of the opening seven minutes, until Nightmare moved out of the way of the first blow of the Jack Attack and Braddock ended up laying out the official. Nightmare would attempt a comeback in the two minutes the official was knocked out, but couldn’t make much headway into the advantage Braddock already had. Barely thirty seconds after the official came back to, Braddock hit the Jack Attack for certain this time, making sure that Nightmare didn’t move, and scored the pin to put a cap on the night’s festivities. Jack Braddock (5-1) def. The Siberian Nightmare (5-1) via Pinfall (Jack Attack) in 10:16. Rating: * Changes for Jack Braddock: OVR + 2.81, XP + 444.52, no notable damage Changes for The Siberian Nightmare: OVR -0.85, XP + 111.13, moderate damage to head =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= SEASON THREE STANDINGS—AFTER WEEK 6 OF 16 RINGSPORTS CONFERENCE RED DIVISION 1. All right, folks. I'm gonna level with you here real quick. I sat down at the PC tonight to get started with running the week seven card, and as I was getting all of the other documents set up my brain just decided that it simply didn't want to go through the hassle tonight. Brain just decided it wanted to do almost anything else right now, and had no joy for working in WS3. It isn't just isolated to tonight, unfortunately. The last few weeks I've had to push myself to get matches run and do all of the administrative work with updating the database and all of the stuff that entails. Last week, for instance, running matches took me close to five hours to do--a process that when this first started took me 90 minutes tops. I've been busy with a bunch of other things outside of this project, too, and I think I've stretched myself too thin to the point where I haven't enjoyed doing much of anything recently, and it's wearing on me. Plus there's some RL stuff going on, what with a combination of being forced back to the office full time combined with the building my roommate and I living in being sold, and possibly having to vacate the premises on a month's notice with no safety net whatsoever to fall back on. I'm not one to leave stuff unfinished, but in this case it may very well end up that way. When doing something you enjoyed doing in the past starts feeling tedious, it's probably time to set it down for a bit and walk away. I actually debated even posting this over the last hour or so, out of a combination of that whole "don't leave it unfinished" mindset and the "oh look, another goon who can't finish a project they started, how typical" reaction. But I need to do something to get my head back into things, and since reality may end up deciding that for me anyway, that brings me to this. TL;DR Version: I think I'm starting to get burnt out on a lot of things, RRW included. So effective immediately, RRW is on indefinite hiatus. I still have all of the information saved, my spreadsheets and databases will still be up to date, but at this point I need to step away for a little while. Should I feel the renewed urge to pick up again, it'll be from right here, in Season Three, Week Seven, with everything the way it is at this moment in terms of records, stats, and the like. Is it entirely possible that this is the end of RRW in total? Yes. I'm not going to promise that I'll be back and then just never get around to it. It's also equally possible that I end up taking a couple of weeks and coming back with enough zeal to finish out the season. I simply don't know. Full stop. I'll still be lurking in PS(TJ)P, and on the one server I'm with some of you on Discord. I've never been much of an active poster on SA anyway, these RRW threads aside. If you've been following along with this game, whether from the beginning when it was in LP, or even as recently as yesterday, I thank you for at least giving the oddball game in the Adam Ryland library a look. To those few who submitted characters over the last two-plus seasons, I thank you for sharing the character ideas and letting me do things with them creatively that you may not have envisioned, but rolled with anyway. We'll see what the future holds, and who knows? It may not be the end of RRW after all. But if it is...thank you for sticking with me this long.
