For twelve years, you have been asking: Who is John Galt? This is John Galt speaking. I am the man who loves his life. I am the man who does not sacrifice his love or his values. I am the man who has deprived you of victims and thus has destroyed your world, and if you wish to know why you are peris

Ishkur finally updated his edm genre site and it's really epic and it got me thinking about music in general. What are genres of music that don't exist anymore that you really like?

Freestyle:

Timmy T - One More Try

This guy actually bought a second hand synthesizer and made a song that he pushed onto radio DJs until they played it. I love that it's such a schmaltzy love song that made me feel some kind of way when I was teenage horned up.

Quiet Storm:

Brenda Russell - Piano in the Dark

Quiet Storm is loving sick and it's low-key one of my favorite genres of music. It's so soulful and romantic. Bone Thugs n Harmony sampled a quiet storm song for Days of Our Livez and it was amazing.

New Jack Swing:

Bobby Brown - My Perogative

This music had ridiculous drum patterns and was what Boyz II Men started out doing before they got lame and boring.

Italo Disco is basically disco music surviving in the 80s in Europe and I love it. "Vamos a la Playa' is a good listen too.

They straight up ripped off the coca cola jingle for this song. This was America's real first introduction to EDM before Daft Punk.

[revision in 2023]

This was a song that was part of the 90s house movement that brought the music to the attention of American audiences in the mid 90s.

Grebo was a pretty cool UK indie rock subgenre in the late 80s/early 90s. It was basically a precursor to Alternative with some electronic and punk elements, but it doesn't really get recognized much. Jesus Jones is the one most people have probably heard of. Basically if you ever saw a bunch of circa 1990 British artsy skater kids with undercut hair or short dreads and wearing oversized sweaters, tights with cutoff jeans, and combat boots, that was grebo.
