As far as the assertion that the Helghast didn't even want to mess with Earth, isn't Stahl's whole plan to Petrusite-nuke the hell out of Earth with his fancy-rear end new cruiser? Or does that not really count at the moment since that hasn't happened yet?

Remember, Stahl basically blindsided everyone with his plan to annihilate Earth and Orlock was loving horrified when he realized it wasn't just some bluster on Stahl's part, he really DID plan on a terracide. Sev and Rico merely redirected which planet ultimately got vaped with their intervention.

Given the way things seem to work for both the ISA and the Helghast, I imagine the battle would have been the span of time between Earth's first salvo going out and Earth first salvo hitting Stahl's ship, and Orlock was about thirty seconds away from pointing out that Earth has had three different shield technologies for decades (Naval attachés doing their work as always). I can't really imagine a situation where Earth's governments' reaction isn't ever increasing levels of speechless fury.
