someone give me a good summary of how the liberals sabotaged the left and ended up electing the nsdap. as far as i can tell all the liberals went all "oh no, we can't allow hitler to win, vote hindenburg and also kill the communists asap" and then hindenburg was all "drat, i gotta make this hitler guy chancellor, for reasons" and then hindenburg died and hitler took over

That's basically your summary. Liberals voted for the right wing authoritarian to avoid the fascist and the right winger basically went yeah put the fascist in cuz he's popular and I can control him and lol.

Theres a longer history of the soc dems alternating between betraying the left and begging for their help for the decade prior (and of course killing rosa).

But other examples in no particular order:

- Colonial wars of liberation in Africa and Asia: Algiers, Vietnam, Angola, Mozambique... Essentially, the defense of far-right authoritarianism by the liberal order was seen as justified, as "decolonization" was regarded as an explicitly leftist threat (which ironically helped to legitimize the socialists as leaders of these movements);

- Also on that note, Belgian Congo post WW2: Belgian business interests campaigned hard against decolonization - which was one of the most popular positions that the left there had at the time - while defending "hard measures" to keep the many peoples of the Congo from "total rebellion";

- Against the socialist land reforms in Mexico, with Mexican liberals [becoming extremely] vilified for seeking American support in the fight against Emiliano Zapata;

- In the favor of Franco in the Spanish Civil War against a Spanish Republic, motivating many business interests (like Goodyear for example) to help supply the Falangistas at cost or even outright loss;

- American liberals supported Batista in Cuba, even though the situation there was loving dire and they knew it (escalation of poverty, "small" famines, sanitation and healthcare collapse);

- Which also brings pretty much almost all Latin America into this after containment doctrine got going, with local liberals hoping that they could "soften" the dictatorships (they didn't; and only after a fair number of them ate lead that they started to think that maybe this was not a good idea);

- oh and of course Suharto in Indonesia, which dear loving lord
