I'm retired military and when I go to the clinic, I'm either seen by a Physician Assistant (PA) or a nurse. It seems like they both do the same thing. Can someone in the field tell me what the difference is as far as responsibilities and training/education?

PA is one step higher than a nurse. A PA can write prescriptions, a nurse can not unless they are a nurse practitioner which is the same level as a PA. Hope that helps. Nurse can have a BS or RN program. A PA usually has a masters, though in the past they could get there via a certificate.
