having all the icons only on one side would drive me nuts. i like having them spread all around the edge of the screen, and then have my windows not be maximized so i can click a thing quickly if i want to

Dual monitors with different max resolutions, thus the black bar in the screen grab. My color-calibrated display is 1440 versus the cheapo monitor on the left at 1080. I use a vertical taskbar on the left side of the larger monitor with icons set to the smallest size to maximize my available screen horizontal real estate. This allows me the quickest access to the taskbar from either monitor (centered) and gives me the smallest taskbar because it's attached to the screen with the highest resolution. I also use a Win 11 hack program called StartAllBack to set my Start menu to a Win 8 style and make other tweaks to the taskbar. Great app.
