post the little things in rap or production that you think are really cool when a police or fire siren is used in the beat, automatically makes the song harder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDrCMEuMYgY when the rapper plays off a vocal sample. I've only heard a few people do this, where he does a call and response thing and the sample finishes the line for him "what you need to know is in the blood" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtyTrcNInuk

might be obvious but i only realized a couple years ago that every verse in Saturday follows the same exact structure. not sure many rappers could make this work as well as luda does https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO9c5abCyZE Jocoserious posted:when the rapper plays off a vocal sample. The end of One by Ghostface is my fav instance of this, where you can tell they're just ad-libbing in the studio and riffing off of the vocal sample. It's neat.

you level up in rap appreciation when you understand ad-libs

the whole "bouncing your rhyme off a vocal sample" thing reminded me of DJ Format, who would do like whole cut n paste tracks of rap vocal drops that would rhyme with each other like verses, and did something similar trading "vocals" with a rapper when he had one on his tracks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMPkG9EURhw

one of my favorite DOOM tracks just for the combo of a beatbox loop and rhyming off the super! sample like 10 times https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNB5eIiIsUc clipping is basically cheating for how crazy their production is but these two are notable for their little details using bees buzzing in a song full of Candyman references https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRP5uAuDAr4 just insane panning tricks to make it sound like you're walking down the street with cars driving by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aibv56K7y8A
