Hi posting pals! Welcome to your new and improved rules thread! We mods (and IKs!) of GBS strive to make it a fun place to post where you can hang out and be silly with your online pals. However, we do have rules, which, if you break, will result in some sort of punishment! Be warned!

Forum enemies and enmity are dumb, but they're part of the pact of posting anonymously on the internet. That being said, don't be a total dweeb to other goons. A good burn here and there is great, but don't follow them into other threads and harass them. Also, death threats or encouraging suicide are not acceptable under any circumstances and you will be punished for that. Offsite drama is neither the responsibility of the moderators, nor something they have influence over. If there is an issue in a goon Discord, talk to the server admin first. Mods have no power over Awful Yearbook. Do not bring offsite drama into GBS unless you want to get teased before a mod deals with you. Racism, ableism and other anti-isms aren't welcome here. Again, this is not reddit. Don't use slurs of any kind. Certain words are confined to certain threads; for example, the word "oval office" may only be used in the Australia and UK threads, because we're looking at a fascinating linguistic study of what happens when a language devolves into using one single word at various intonations and they're test subjects in a lab. Don't intentionally misgender or deadname other posters, and if you do, recognize your mistake and pledge to do better. If you want to post a charity or donation thread, ask a mod first. Posting without mod approval is subject to gassing of the thread in question. All general SA rules apply here. In general, don't be a total rear end in a top hat and you'll be just fine. Images and Files: If an image is not work-safe, add an  and a link. This includes literally anything you personally would not want your boss, grandma, or other person you respect to see you looking at. Yes, the Goatman is still banned, even though he's an old friend and we accept him like one.If an image is potentially disturbing, triggering, or might make someone puke, do the same as above with the  tag, and think about whether you really want to post it at all.Avoid posting rapidly blinking images. They can trigger seizures, which we don't want with our posting friends. Do not ask for warez, illegal programs, cracks, torrents, illegal streaming sites, etc. Don't post links, ask for links to download, or otherwise discuss illegal copies of copyrighted works, including movies, books, software, etc. Information may want to be free, but you won't be if you do this. Do not post your nudes. Please Finally, the Ukraine thread has its own special set of rules, which will be subject to an addendum to below post. We mods do take feedback. IF YOU PLAN ON POSTING IN THE UKRAINE WAR THREAD, PLEASE READ THESE RULES. Main rules: 1. Bloodthirst/War Porn: Reveling in the death/misfortune of soldiers or civilians is explicitly and definitively punishable by probation or ban. Please remember that it's human beings on both sides of this conflict. War is not good and people getting hurt and dying is not good, even if it's people we don't like. Don't wish death on people, wish for Russia to pack up its poo poo and go home and work backwards from there. Horndogging for war materiel is weird, don't do it. You've been warned. 2. Posting about posters: NO DISCUSSION OF OTHER FORUMS OR THEIR POSTERS IN THIS THREAD. This will be strictly enforced via time off and/or bans depending how severe the violation is. This includes trying to be cheeky and sly about "some other forums" or "other people on SA" or something along those lines. Everyone knows what you mean, don't try to skirt the rules with vaguery. 3. Accusations and Brigading: No more accusing other posters or forums of being genocide deniers, warmongers, Nazis, collaborators, Russian shills, war fetishists, etc. here without actual bona fide proof. Flinging around words like nazi/tankie/fascist/bloodluster shuts down conversation and makes the thread worse for everyone. This shouldn't need to be said, but don't brigade or taunt other forums or posters. Attempting to troll/concern troll/brigade this thread will get you a threadban and posting in it afterwards will be a $10 fee. If you have an issue with the thread, PM a mod or IK, don't threadshit. 4. This is not D&D: Normal GBS rules still apply. Some people may shitpost, some people may post interesting information, some may just be wondering what the hell is going on. These are all valid ways of posting. We're not going to be enforcing D&D style rules here. 5. No bigotry. Don't post bigotry. No generalizations. No "all Russians are culpable" posts. Using the term 'orcs' or 'hohols' falls into this category. 6. No more reddit-style content garbage. NAFO poo poo and the like is generally cringey and it's just boring white noise. Things that make light of the extremely serious nature of this conflict aren't going to be allowed. Putin Monkey is still okay though, as it was valid before this war even started. 7. No passive voice fear-baiting. Posts like "Don't go on twitter, you guys don't wanna see this horrible video of people getting blown up" is just trying to let people know that you saw some gore and you're hyped up about it. No one needs to know that it's out there at this point. If you want to genuinely warn people about this, message a mod or IK and we'll post it for you. -- Notes on content warnings and what's OK to post in here - Mental Health warning: we're discussing war and war includes discussions about violence, death, and possibly war crimes committed. - DO NOT POST CONTENT WITH DEAD BODIES / POOLS OF BLOOD / GORE / DEATH / PEOPLE DYING / ETC. Nothing , that is combat-footage related. This really can't be said enough times. There is a very high threshold for "newsworthy" violent content. If you are unsure if your content could be on the nightly news, you should refrain from posting it and ask a mod or IK beforehand. Things like HIMARS firing or the aftermath of destroyed civilian infrastructure are allowed.- Examples of videos or pictures that are okay to post: Soldiers driving or walking around talking about the situation on the ground, analysis of the war as it stands today, feel-good stories about puppies and kittens being rescued, people moving in or moving out of Ukraine, John Deere Tractor towing advertisements, financial and military support projects by other countries, changes in leadership, some guy in Ukraine calling Putin an rear end in a top hat, phone calls between Russia soldiers and others (with content warnings), etc. - Always include a brief description with your link and just don’t spam poo poo. It doesn’t need to be a play by play but something someone can read and determine whether or not they want to see it. If you don't want the link to auto-embed, uncheck the "automatically parse URL" button below the text field. - Videos of torture/mutilation of soldiers or civilians are not to be posted or linked in the thread at any time for any reason. If you do you will be taking a long posting break and will be paying 10 dollars or risking your account. - News coverage can be linked with appropriate content warnings and tags, but don't link anything that shows things in the above content warning, i.e. gore, dead bodies, etc. without mod approval beforehand. - If you see something that is not following the above guidelines report it and/or PM myself, one of the IKs, or an admin. We will take a look at it and deal with the post as seems appropriate. If you aren't sure whether or not you should post something, hold off and then DM one of the IKs and we'll let you know ASAP Make use of the report button: We count on the community to help us out in this. We do take every report into consideration, and we would encourage you to use it if you think rules are being violated. Please don't report people who just disagree with you. That's petty and dumb. If you see a reply you don't like, call out specific posts, not the whole thread. These rules are subject to change, so please check back every so often. We want GBS to be a great community, even in the midst of all that's going on. If you have any concerns/suggestions/complaints about the rules please PM one of the IKs/mods/admins.  New rule! Jokes or "jokes" accusing any Something Awful poster being a pedophile without evidence are no longer going to be tolerated. Even Reddit doesn't allow that any more. From now on any such "jokes" in GBS will receive "probes" of indeterminate length subject to mod discretion. This includes "jokes" about the mod team being pedos, which has officially been run into the ground at this point. Note that this explicitly includes "mods knew". Good lord, people, give it a rest.
