I am developing an affinity for old Blacksploitation movies, spaghetti westerns and the like, generally just pulling some at random from streaming sites. I'd really like to deepen my understanding of cinema in this wheelhouse-- great pulp classics made by more or less working class talent outside the major studio system, high calibre with small budgets and lowbrow sensibilities. You know, that Tarantino sort of stuff (for lack of better way of putting it). I want to dive into the lore and history of different sub-Hollywood scenes and get an idea who the great overlooked talents were and what made them great. What old studios and production companies to look at, that sort of thing. Recommendations for things to read and movies to watch would be appreciated. I'll give you the trip report on anything I watch!
