post your favorite malt liquor and theatre candy pairings, or just reviews of pairings you've tried. experiment and share your best creations!

pairing: Mickey's (plastic bottle) and Skittles (original line-up with lime, none of that green apple bullshit)

review: this is a light and refreshing combo that is especially nice in the summertime. new malt-heads will appreciate the light, crisp profile of the Mickey's, and seasoned consumers will enjoy the added benefit of the plastic bottle providing stealth and lighter carry weight. this crispness plays nicely against the sweet fruitiness of the Skittles. very classic combo and one you'll see pretty frequently. enjoy this combo every time you head to the cinema, or even just on a lonely weeknight. a riff on this combo swaps the Skittles for a bag of Unwrapped Starburst Minis.

profile: light and refreshing, fruity, daily driver

overall score: 8/10. the lightness of the Mickey's can sometimes leave you wanting more.

pairing: Steel Reserve (original) and Sno-Caps

review: i call this the 'turkish delight.' the metallic notes of the Steel Reserve provide a great sharp contrast to the richness and sweetness of the chocolatey nonpareils, like a nice strong turkish coffee brewed with brown sugar. the gravity of the liquor and overly bitter taste of the combination might be a little too intense for newbies, but for pros, it can be exactly what you're looking for when the wife and kids drag you along to the newest Despicable Me spin off on your only day off. be careful, this goes down surprisingly smooth all things considered, and you may end up overdoing it.

profile:full, rich, bitter, intense. for true malt-heads only.

overall score: 6/10. the harshness can be a bit off-putting to newcomers so that knocks a few points off the score.

pairing: St. Ides and Cookie Dough Bites

review: this combo has been making the rounds on Tik Tok lately where 30-somethings are calling it "The Elliott Smith." Elliott was an early emo singer/songwriter who wrote a song about St. Ides once, and he apparently ate a lot of ice cream in the last years of his life as a result of his heroin addiction. fans have seemingly put this combination of malt liquor and candy together as a tribute to the late Elliott, but anyone who has actually tried it knows that it is clearly just a stupid viral video trend. it tastes disgusting, between the blandness and sweet undertones of the St. Ides to the already disgustingly overly sweet taste of the Cookie Dough Bites. definitely skip this combo.

profile: syrupy sweet, too much going on, just plain bad

overall score: 1/10. not even worth it for the Tik Tok views.

With summer rapidly approaching, I'd like to share a classic for outdoor movie viewing, whether that be at a drive in or perhaps a showing in your local park or a friend's back yard: Olde English (can) and Otter Pops. Cut the bottom of the Otter Pop container at an angle to allow flow without allowing the popsicle to slip out, then insert it into the can as a fun, fruity straw!

The variety of fruit flavors cuts and lightens the bitter back end of the OE, while the liquor softens the sweetness of the ices, resulting in a refreshing summer treat for those hot days and beautiful evenings. Personal favorite: Alexander the Grape
